I have a what sounds like an exhaust vibration at idle and low RPMS, as soon as you get on it it is no longer noticable. I remember seeing a post a while back about a "spring" in the exhaust system that could cause this issue, But I searched and can't find the original post. I had the noise before I installed my Corsa Touring - Pro Tips and I still have the vibration after the installation. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Duds
I know what you're talking about. The member was DEVNULL and he bought these springs that he used to hook the two hanging springs together to keep them from rattling. He sent me one to use on my exhaust but I found my rattle to not be those springs. I still have the spring if you'd like me to send it to you.
Guys - I had the same problem. There is a little metal piece on top of the Cats to hold them together. It splits and rattles together. My mechanic found the split after I told him what to look for. He used a small crowbar and pushed the piece of metal up a half an inch. Problem solved. Cost me $25.00

I'm having the same problem. Sounds like it's coming from somewhere around the middle of the car.
Cats. I had it too and replaced my cats. Seemed to be internal from them, sounded almost like a bird chirp at low rpms while the car was under load. Only last 100-200 rpms, was very brief, but always present, I think around 1600-1700 rpms.

Yes, it sounded like it came from the middle to the back. Spent a ton of time checking everything from that point back until I saw a post with pictures of what I was telling you about. Went the next day to the mechanic. There it was right under your feet at the cats. Before you spend a lot of time and money - jack it up and look there. I'de be surprised if it wasn't the problem....

Thank you Hammie, You are a fine example of the members of this forum. I have received a great deal of information and money saving tips on this forum and I hope I willl be able to contribute to others and return the many favors. Thanks again Duds
I'm a new poster and it looks like this thread has the knowledge base that I was looking for. Have a manual 04 coupe that has had a persistent rattle both in neutral and in gear when revved slightly (anything beyond 3k rpm masks the sound) and when winding down when slowing. It is especially apparant in enclosed areas like a parking garage. I've been bugging the dealer about this at 9k, 12, and 15k miles (every time I get an oil change) but no joy. They have probably tighted every heat shield and bracket under the body, let alone already replaced the alternator pulley among other warranty items (your guess is as good as mine). I have now dug my heels in and am leaving it in the shop till fixed. After exhausting all options, they brought the area factory rep in to look at it, he replaced the left pipe, still no joy. Now the story I just got was that "the rattle is inherent to many C5's" and the approved warranty fix is to replace the crossover exhaust pipe with an X crossover pipe from Borla. I explained to the rep that I thought he was blowing smoke up my ***, but to go ahead and order the part while I researched the problem to see if this was in fact true. Oh, by the way I would like to mention that I have owned a '97 and a '00 coupe as daily drivers previously, and never had an issue with any exhaust noise. I've seen some similar issues posted, but I find it hard to believe that this is an acknowledged problem, and that the accepted warranty fix is to make a non factory standard fix to it. I'd also like to add that now that the area rep is involved, he is the only one that can authorize work on the car which is making the entire process agonizingly slow. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks--
A vibration started in my 04 convert w/automatic at about 28K miles. I felt it at 1500 RPM. The dealership 'repositioned' the exhaust and the vibration went away for about 6 hours. Now its back and also occurs at 800 RPM. Yesterday the dealership said all corvettes have the same problem and it's within GM guidelines. I'm curious about what works to get rid of it. I'd have lived with it if I had a Metro but this needs repair

Mike-
Totally concur that it is unacceptable. Mine started around 5k miles or so and now I'm at 14k. Turns out that there is a GM tech bulletin (I have a copy but not the number handy right now) that the dealership found for me. Turns out that for 02-04 vettes (why just those, I don't know) the accepted correction is to modify the equalizer cross pipe. Have your service center look for the bulletin - it is out there (took my center 10 months to come across it). Mine is getting worked on today - I'll let you know how it turns out.

Duds, if you need help, you're more than welcome to bring it by and we can put i up and see if we can't find the vibration. I have a feeling it might be your fuel shield, or something along those sorts.

If it's a sort of metallic vibration at those low rpm's, it's what I had before and after my Corsa installation. It was really embarrasing especially when backing up into my garage.
Took it to an exhaust specialist and they quickly figured out that it was simply the exhaust pipe making slight contact with the transmission housing. A quick realignment of the pipes and problem solved.
Did Anyone Check Out What I Said In A Few Of My Posts??????? It Costs Nothing And Is A Simple Place To Start. You Guys Are Crying About Exactly What I Had, But Yet No One Has Responded To What I Said To Check. It Would Be Nice To See If Any Or All Would Look At The 1 Inch Metal Crossover Piece That Holds The Cats Together. You May Have To Push Up On One To See If It Has Split. This Will Be The Last Time I Throw My Two Cents In......
I have an '02 vert 6 speed which has always had the "marbles in a can" vibrating sound when in 1st gear pulling through a parking lot. I noticed it within the first day I had the car but was told all C-5's have that sound so I have just lived with it for two years.
