Do any mechanical geniuses have any insight into the following?
Between 80 and 90 mph there is a slow cycling rumble from the rear. If I take it out of gear, the sound does not change. I just put new tires on, but the sound was there before tire change.
I drive an '04 MN6, Z51.
Just changed all fluids in transaxle and diff.
The sound is just loud enough to drive one looney.

Whatcha think???
That's a perfect description...A slow cycling vibration is what I get.
No noticeable noise but on smooth roads, I get this as well anywhere
above 50 or 60mph. 04 MN6 btw. I feel it's either rear wheel balance
or alignment.

Diagnosing these damn suspension problems is a pain.
I'd start small with balancing, alignment.
If you want to check the wheel bearings jack the rear up and see if there's any play in the wheels wobbling, ever so slightly. It's not likely AT ALL that it's a wheel bearing, but I've heard of them going up very early on high hp vehicles.
Check the rear wheel bearings (right rear most likely) for play or roughness, axle/hub splines for lube, and check the large axle nut for proper torque.
Same here...50-60 MPH A4 coupe. I think it might be axle related, I'm going to put in a new 3.73 rear & T/C next year & will mention to Phil at Dynotech when the work is done to see if he can figure out what this is. Needs to be pretty smooth road surface for me to feel & here it in the car...very annoying.
