Drove my 2000 vette /6-speed 35000 miles to joliet IL for the nascar race this weekend from Milwaukee. Car ran fine with no problems whatsoever. Got home and put it right in the garage. Went to go get in this morning to clean it and the battery is stone dead. (new battery three months ago) I figured myself or my wife had left something on so I checked everything to no avail and then went and got the charger. As soon as I hook the charger up the lights on the dash and the light under the hood start to flash!! I can't charge the battery this way so I have it unhooked now and charging. My questions are could this possibly be the hazard light swicth which I know that there has been problems with and if so does anyone know which fuse to pull to disable them? Any suggestions?? Thanks for all your help everyone you guys rock!!
The flashing lights and clicking occurs when you charge the battery. Its happended to me a couple of times and to the best of my knowledge not indicative of anything other than the car is power back up.
New battery, so I wouldn't suspect its bad, but you never know. Probably be worthwhile checking it out since it sounds like you've already pulled it.
Stating the obvious, but I'm presuming the belts are all tight and the battery was charging properly when you had it running. If the belts check out, then it has to be either the alternator or voltage regulator.
Glad you made it home okay.
I found this prior post on same issue - It may help somewhat:
sorry i meant my car has 35000 miles on it, (although it would be a fun road trip) Just hooked the battery back up and sure enough the flashing stopped once the battery was charged (phew!!) I think I must have left something on and it drained the battery. I am going to let it charge the rest of the way and see if I can figure out what I left on!!
edit- my wife went back into the car to get her ipod and left the fm transmitter pluged in the center console and it completely drained the battery. It appears that once you plug in your charger it does some funky things to the car. Next time I will just unhook the battery to start with. Thanks for all your help!!
Your battery is prolly fine, check your battery cables. I had this exact problem. For 3 days I had to pop the hood and jiggle the cable before it'd start. Actually what I was doing was disconnecting the battery and re-connecting it to reset everything and it seemed to work .. until one time I didn't have it all the way disconnected and the light came on, realized it was the cable.
for me, the connector underneath, on the starter, was way loose. tightened her up and never had the problem again.
I had a similar problem just a week ago, new red top also.. not to mention a semi large amp for the cd/radio/mp3.. I found out the alternator was not producing enough amps, thus ineffective charging.. I replaced it with a heavy duty Lesorville.. No more problem..not saying this is your problem but it,s the source of battery power..have a look..
also i looked all over MapQuest..could find nothing about suspected electrical problems.. Remember to thank that contributing member for his enlightening information.

Do the lites on your sunvisors go off in the up position, they should be off when "up". Also clean batt. terms/cables, they can look clean on top, but be oxidized inside.
