Default Crummy Wheels-What To Do With Them

I replaced the original wheels on my '97 sometime in 2000. These thin spoke wheels (I think they were WCC bought through Eckler's) have the chrome coming off in handfulls. I have bought and mounted some GM polished aluminum wheels (through EBay). I would like to sell the crummy wheels (they are not crummy except for the chrome issue). I was wondering if anyone has ever had the old chrome removed from such wheels and then had the clean wheels powdercoated? I see some guys running black wheels. Do you think this would be cost effective? I know rechroming is not the way to go. Thanks for any ideas.

Put them up for sale in parts. Assuming they're stright there may be someone out there that wants to put some work into them; if they don't sell, well, there's your answer.

The wheels are straight (no curb rash or any other blems) with center caps, lug nut covers and tire pressure sensors. Have any of you any idea what I should ask ($) for these wheels? They cost $1650 (gulp!) new.
Thanks.

Unfortunately, what you paid for them six years ago, will have absolutely no bearing on the sale price.

You could probably get $350 for them.

I would just have them stripped and painted, either powdercoated or baked on. Depends on if there is pitting or just pealing. If you come up with an idea, let us know...we like new and fresh ideas. What color C5 do you have?

Somebody out there will buy them no matter what shape they're in!

My 97 c5 is Torch Red. It is a 38k mile car-real nice( s# 771). I hit a deal on the polished aluminum gm wheels-$500 through eBay (plus $115 shipping). They were in excellent shape. They look better on the car than did the chrome wheels (even when they were new.) I have some other classic vehicles (71 Chevelle ss, 69 Camaro, 53 Chevy) and I deal more with those than the Corvette. However I am going to the Mid America deal in Sept. Thank for all you help on the wheel deal.

have them powder coated dark gray, then put some all-season or winter tires on them and use them as winter wheels

Why don't you re-finish them and keep them as spares or for a different look? Maybe you will want to road race, autocross, or drag someday.

I'll have to think on the options. I think my best bet is to sell them outright-as is- and let someone else worry about stripping and powdercoating. I am building a garage additon right now (31x54) and about 90% complete. i will figure out what to do with these wheels when I finish the project.
Thanks
