I am having trouble with the headlight actuator. When the lights are turned off they close OK, but it makes this terrible grinding type noise for about 10 seconds.
Went to the dealer today to have it fixed and they couldn't squeeze me in. The service rep said "Some people wait 6 months to have this fixed". Anyone ever heard of this? Can you keep doing this until they can fix it, without it failing completely and the lights not opening or something like that.
How long has anyone driven with that happening, before having it fixed.
common problem. It took me 3 months to figure it out and fix it. its the gear inside the headlight motor. price for it range from $20 for the original type plastic one to $40 for the heavy duty brass one. pretty easy DIY 45 min. fix
Thanks guys.
The dealer didn't say I would have to wait 6 months. He said I couldn't wait and have it done right then as they were booked up. I could make an appointment and come back. I asked if it was alright to drive it like that for a couple of days. That is when he said people drive them like that for 6 months.
it took me 6 months before i got around to fixing mine. just lift the head light with the manual **** and take off the shroud around the light, just a few screws. then find the linkage that goes from the light to the motor. take off the nut that holds it on. slide the linkage off the motor. now turn the manual **** till the motor gear has turned 180* and put the linkage back on. it should be all fixed now. put the shroud on and take the money you saved and go to the parts for sale section in the forum and buy something nice for the car.
Get the brass gears. I changed mine out. Have to contort your arm a little to get the assembly out, but fairly easy. If I can do it, anyone can. Good luck.
