Well I am a cheapo sometimes, and when I bought the car used it had mastercafts on it. Only the backs are worn. Should I put mastercrafts back on? I found some cheap tires called Sumitomo, does anyone know anything about these?
Also, I know a lot of you use tire rack, but has anyone heard of Vulcan tires? Tire rack does not have mastercrafts.
Not familiar with the tires you mentioned, but I have Kumho Ecstas on my C5 and I really like them. They are much more quiet than the stock runflats and are wearing better also so far. These tires are inexpensive also. Many forum members are running them.

Are you using the ASX? How many miles do you have on them? The Mastercrafts seemed new when I bought the car. A year and a half later there is no tread in the center.

Have them on my c-4 & have 44K on them. Still have 1/4 tread left. Not worth a darn in rain but what tire is?

I had Yokohama es100's on my Trans Am and loved them! They are cost effective, look great, and handle excellently. Try them out.
I have Sumitomo on my C-4 & they are wearing good. Just look at tread ware & temp rating for the best. Tread at 220 is common for z rated tires which mean not a lot of tread dept. 280-360 is usually for h reated tires & are concidered touring. 360-450 are usually all season tires & have deep tread. they will last longer but not as good handling.

For stock o.e. C5 Coupe and Vert sizes, Falken Tires are yet another inexpensive tire alternative for the C5 owner. Moreover, another benefit of selecting the Falken tire line is that Falken Tires offers an actual "Plus 0" upgrade in tire sizing for the C5. And, as an example: For the front axle you may install the 255/40-17 Falken Beta FK-451's. And, for the rear, you may install the 285/35-18 Falken Beta FK-451's. Good luck to you. Do let us know how it all works out for you.
Falken, Sumitomo, Kumho are all good inexpensive tires. I would consider the Kumho the best of the 3. Sumitomo have a softer side wall, Falken make some noise, Kumho have a softer ride but still solid & very little noise.
I just put on the ASX's, they seem to be good tires in the rain and good on dry roads. They also seem pretty quiet. They have a 30,000 mile warranty, and they say they are said to be OK in the snow. Even though I mounted the factory size, they look thinner that the original GY runflats.
The guy at the tire rack said some Kuhmo tires lose traction below 50 degrees, so he steered me to the ASX. I live in the snow belt, so there is a real possibilty of getting an early/late snow on halloween or Easter. With all season tires, maybe it will only sit 4 or 5 months out of the year. It can easily be 60 in the morning in October and snow in the afternoon, when I have the car at work. So the all season tires will let me drive a few more weeks without being afraid of a early snow. Keeping the car on the road, and out of extended winter storage was my primary goal in selecting tires. Good luck, Ter
