]I have a 2000 coupe with stock painted wheels. I plan on upgrading when I can aford it, but for now repainting works better and is more cost efective than powter coating (so I can stil save for the new wheels).I can do the work myself and have all the sray guns I could need. I just have never painted wheels before and wonder if the was any Ineeded to know is there any special prep work required to paint them, or just clean, sand, and spray.
the problem on wheels is the tire dressings that we always use. clean, clean and clean 4-5 times the wheels with something like simple green and rinse FIRST. then do you normal prep/sanding/prime to make absolutely sure that polymers are removed on the wheels. presol and the like only may not cut it. good luck!!
And the 1st time you have the tires mounted, your new paint will get torn off. You need to electrostaically paint it or powdercoat them. The finish on wheels need to be alot tougher than regular paint. Guess you could do like a few other guys and paint them with the tire on the rim.
Thanks for the info on cleaning I plan on doing so with a very stong citricacid based degreaser that should take every thing off but the tire. And as far as the paint coming off when mounting tires it's just paint it can be fixed fairly easy.
