Default Octane Question

If i were to put 100 octane fuel in a stock vette. What would happen? Any benefits? Or would it be bad for my engine?

Probably a stupid question for all you vette gurus but just wondering....

Wouldn't be bad necessarily, but definitely a waste of your money in a stock C.R. C5. It will not create horsepower.

Default Best Octane?

I think in a stock C5, 92 or 93 is your best bet. Over that, it's a waste of money as best I can tell. I prefer Chevron myself. Good luck!

The only thing octane does is allow you to run a more advanced timing without preignition (knocking) If you hear knocking it will help. These cars have a knock senser on them so if it "hears" knocking it will automatically retard the timing wich will in effect reduce performance. After tuning your car to a more agresive tune (thrue HP tuner or even a predator) higher octane levels may help.

93 octane is adequate for the stock LS1 compression. The higher the compression the higher the octane req'd.

100 octane will work o.k. in an LS1 but is not needed. MAKE SURE IT IS UNLEADED.

I can't take the chance of one bad tank full so i use Torco. In the extreme heat here in Vegas i would sometimes have a ping at WOT. Torco took care of that problem also. We only have 91 octane here, but with Torco i run around 96 octane.
