Went into Waikiki to meet up with visiting friends & snagged some nice (read safe) street parking. As I closed the trunk and started to walk away this guy ran up to me, with girlfriend in tow… “Sir is this yours, can we take a picture next to your car please???!!!” Of course I said yes, I was flattered to be quite honest. We did a little chit-chat but I had to run, I would have loved to talk more Vette with them. Anyhow I meet up with my friends for some chow, as we’re eating one of them says “Is that your Vette down there… Check it out”. Fearing the worst I peer out the window to see 3 Japanese girls taking turns posing with my Z while snapping away, I was all smiles (still am) & really wanted to rush on down and share some Aloha!!! Finally, on my way back, I ran into yet another couple admiring the Vette… We talked for a bit before I had to blast, they were pretty nice folks.
Anyway, I guess the C5 still has a little flash left, even in the big shadow cast by the new Z. Maybe it’s a little conceited but it felt pretty good witnessing the reaction of those people. I still feel pretty darn proud & certainly happy to drive this American classic
