In my quest for my first C5, I found a 2003 MY Z06 for what I consider to be very cheap. The owner didn't mod it aside from some interior stuff. He said it's never been raced or tracked and he does all the maintenance.
Here's what's bugging me. He lives in Portland, OR, and it's got Oregon plates, but he registers it in Poway, CA. This is according to CarFax. Why would someone do that? I didn't know you can register an Oregon vehicle in California. I guess since they're neighboring states, it's possible?
Anyway, if someone could please run a GM vehicle history report, I would really appreciate it. Here's the VIN: 1G1YY12S835121648

I can’t run a report for you but many people do that for tax reasons, summer homes or they’re in the military.

If he registers it in Ca. it should have Ca. plates. Something is a miss here I should think...
I don't know how you can register in one state and get plates from another. It's possible the carfax is missing the registration in OR. Unless things are drasticly different on the West coast, but here in NJ, the 2 are tied together. The registration shows the VIN,vehicle description, owner's name & address, plate#,and DL#. It is a registration of the plate to the vehicle. Certificate of Title or Certificate of Ownership, whatever it's called in a given state, can be from out of state, but registration and plates should match.

CARFAX has been know to be wrong on many occasions. I would never let a CARFAX keep me from buying a vehicle. I sent him a VIS report so hopefully that will help uncover something.
From: "This is not a psychotic episode, but a cleansing moment of clarity."
I don't like that it's registered out of state, or that the owner does his "own" maintenance, which could really mean "rare to no" maintenance. The fact that he's selling it at a price that seems to be too good to be true should also be a red flag. I would not buy this car without having it professionally inspected by a facility that knows Corvettes. Be careful and don't make a costly mistake.
Just ask him about it, but i do the same thing. I stay in florida most of the year, but i am in New York for the other 5 months. So register and insure the car in NY because insurance is over 1K cheaper, but i keep my Florida plates on. Just ask him, im sure it has to do with insurance or taxes.
