Ahhh yes. The velcro-mod is in order for you young lad!
Oh, and yes, the sneaky license plate trick works well, but I gave up my Florida license plate a long time ago. I used to have Florida plates, Insurance from Texas and a Hawaii driver's license......yeah, the cop gave me "the eye" the first time I ever got pulled over
Greetings lads,
My first post here in the forums after joining had my 04 C5 for about a month now. I live in Ontario so as some of you know the front licence plates are required. I took delivery of my car with no front plate installed and never worried about it until today I learned its required. Nice cop to pulled in behind me when I pulled into my parking lot for work! Its my office to and all my employee's are standing outside watching. Anyways its a nice fine of 110.00 which ofcourse I will protest I was delivered the car that way I had no idea. Anyways I have the plate on there now and it looks ugly as sin so I had to order from the site here the trim piece for the front around the plate.
Just thougth I would share my first experience with you guys. Im sure it had nothing to do at all with me being a younger guy driving a sports car what so ever.
I have had 14 points; in the 2 years I have been driving. Everytime I get pulled over they always site me for something and front license plate! Yet i have never put one on. It is the ugliest thing ever!
All i do every time is goto the police station put it on they sign me off and i take it off 5 minutes later. Dont ruin your car because some cop on a ridiculous power trip.
Plate required in California too. Spoke to a gal without 1 and she said you just show them you've installed it and they dismiss. Hope its that way there too.
I live in Oegon and they require a front plate also. I ordered a front plate cover from the dealership. I am having that and, the license plate frame color matched (Electro Blue Metallic). The Body Shop manager at the dealership suggested that I just screw on the front plate and put the painted front cover on top of it! Will that work? I am leaning towards using just the plate, and the painted plate frame. I do need another reason to get pulled over. Owning a Vette seems to be reason enough.

Good Luck!!!
It's not quite that simple in California. When you return the citation to the court signed off on the back by an officer that the violation has been corrected, the court still charges a $35.00 "administrative fee" for processing the citation.
Front plates are required in Missouri also. I got pulled over last week for not displaying a front plate. Even tried the "I was taking pictures of the car and forgot to take the cover off" story (which was true). It didn't matter and there was no sympathy since they are "required" and he wouldn't even let me get out of the car and pull the cover off to show him the plate was there. His parting words were "were cracking down on this because of the intersection cameras."

...yeah, but that's because CA has a financial crisis to resolve...
My state says no fines, no administrative court costs, no points. If the driver doesn't return the repair order within 10 days and signed off, the officer can issue a citation next time.
Having "no idea" a front plate is required is paramount to receiving a speeding ticket and telling the judge he can't find you guilty because you didn't know what the speed limit was. I think it falls under the "ignorance of the law is no excuse" statute.
Its not like the law was enacted the day you picked up your car.
I doubt it, the judge may think you are some jerkoff with a better than you attitude "I have a vette, I can do what I want". You didnt have it, and you should have. If you got a ticket, just pay it and either put on the front plate or leave it off and take your chances (which is what I have done and do). Arguing in traffic court is pretty pointless in my opinion, it generates too much revenue to go in the favor of the accused.
You can do what you want, and you are better! You have a "Vette
this reminds me of the rear bumper law in Tennessee back when I was 20. I had a '69 Camaro with a big block and big tires and the cops would give me a ticket for my rear bumper being too high
After being a cop for 35 years, I'm amazed at some of these stories. Where do you run into these people at? I've had my Vette for over 5 years and was stopped once when I first got it because I had my Cobra license plates (U GOT BIT) on it. I showed the officer the paperwork and he sent me on my way. To be honest, I am surprised that I haven't been pulled over yet for loud exhaust. And no . . . I don't have a front plate.
I didn't read all the posts here. Maybe some else already said this.
I leave the front plate under the driver floormat. If I get pulled over, I plan to quickly reach down and place it on my dash, long before the cops walks over. The front plate on the dash works in Illinois. In my vert with top up, he won't see me doing it. Top down and the best I can do is show him I have it, just not displayed.
"Officer....How about I just set it on the dash like this. Am I good now?"

This will soon be my delimma as well, as I cannot stand front plates...and on the C5 it's a whole new level of ridiculous to see them on such a great looking car.
Here's an idea I've often thought of but never implemented. You know how they have those "Police Booster" clubs? I have completely forgotten what they are called, but essentially you become a member of a club that supports good police work. Anyway, legitimately join a club like that, pay your dues, and then get a rear plate frame that shows your support for your local law enforcement. Then, when pulled over, make sure they see that you're a card carrying member of this group.
You see where I'm going with this...although I obviously have no idea if it would work. I think the "privilege" to run a Corvette without a front plate is definitely worth something though, so how is that for an alternative philosophy?
I have attached my front plate with a cabinet hinge under the front facia. I just fold it up out of site, and if I am ever stopped I plan to plead good intentions, but faulty design.

I never liked seeing cars with Support Law Enforcement or Associate Fraternal Order of Police Member stickers because I know that people often display them to get out of a ticket. Personally, I would have been much more likely to write someone a ticket under those circumstances. I may have been born at night, but I wasn't born last night.
