I just bought a 2000 Convertible and tried to use the Keyless Remote. And of course it did not work so I replaced the battery and reprogram the remote according to GM directions.
The Remote worked for 3 seconds and all of a sudden went back to going dead.
I was going to buy a new remote but the dealership want $136.00 is it possible to get an after market remote to do the same thing, and if so Were would I go to get on

Could be the fob has gone bad (mine is about to that point right now). Check prices with either Fred Beans or Fichtner Chevy, both forum vendors. Bet they can beat that $136 price.
There have been quite a few threads on here lately regarding FOB's that won't hold programming. If you do a search you can probably find them. The gist of most, revolves around the contacts inside the FOB losing continuity with the battery. If your TPMS is working fine, it's most likely the FOB that is at issue.
The 2000 FOB is unique to that car and therefore about the most expensive, so it makes sense to try to salvage it.
Like many things on your 2000, the key fob is a one-year only model.
1. Make sure you have the right fob - part #10432147.
2. Buy new - you might get 3 good years out of it!
3. Don't buy on ebay - why buy someone else's problem?
All I want to add to this thread, which contains the correct part number for you already, is that forum vendor Ken Fichtner chevrolet will give you as good a deal as you will get for GM parts from a dealer -
I have bought from them several times and they are really great to deal with.

I the directions I have the last thing it tells you to do is the Hold the unlock and lock button down for 15 second but nothing happen on the dash board verifiying that the code took

Good luck... GUSTO
If contact is an issue, I recommend cleaning the contacts gently with a pencil eraser, then a q-tip with rubbing alcohol.

OK, here's another idea. Take your fob apart and take out the battery. Next pull the circuit board out of the rubber gasket. With some good, quality electrical contact cleaner and a small rag, clean the contact points under the push buttons. Clean the under side of the push buttons. Also slightly bend out the battery contact "arms" and clean those. Reassemble the fob. You will now need to do the complete fob training again. When I re-trained our fobs I had to hold both buttons for what seemed like a lot longer than 15 seconds - just keep holding them down until the DIC read "Train Fob 2".
If that doesn't work, it's time to call Fichtner's or Fred Bean's.

I finally got it trained and even resynchronizing the transmitter to make sure it worked. The horn beeped one time and everything working fine. But after about 2 minutes the remote was none functionally againg. So I resynchronized it again and the same thing happen I work for about 2 minutes then died
I used to have on for my '96 Camaro, and every so often the remote key fob seemed to stop working (even with new batteries).
To fix this problem, I periodically had to open up the fob, take the battery out, and then clean the contacts off with a pencil erasor. After putting it back together (only took about 5 minutes), the transmittor worked perfectly.
Not sure if this is the same thing as you're experiencing, but it may be worth a try...

Oops, I should have read duckvett's post first. Sorry for the duplicate information but this procedure worked for me.
Mason,
I have problems with my fob too. and have to reset every 2/3 days on my '98.... Stand outside the car next to the gas tank, and hold lock/unlock for 15 or so seconds. car should beep. I could never get mine to beep while sitting in the car.
Hope this helps.
Chuck

Have you actually tested the batteries in the FOB ?
I went through this recently and found that two of the brand new batteries I bought were dead right out of the bubble pack

Yes I tested the batteries and the meter read 3Volts. I think my unit is toast
