I've notice that my 1999 Hardtop send me a low oil level warning when it's reaching the time to change oil (around 28% or so) I end up putting two more quarts on it. Is this normal?
Should burn under a quart in 5,000 miles. Many C5's don't burn any at all. You might have a problem or one hell of a leadfoot. Do you take it to the track? You may to need to get that checked out. I thought most of the oil burning cars were late 00 early 01. Somebody else will proabably chime in. I am the furtherest thing from one of the experts on this forum but I am thinking not good
How often do you check your oil level? Burning oil is normal in engines, the question will be the rate of oil consumption. Some cars hardly burn any. How hard you drive and have the revs up above 4k rpm makes a difference. 1 would not be alarmed at a 1/2- 3/4 qt every 3000 miles or so. You will have to determine what is normal for your engine and monitor it.

How many miles since the oil level was correct? If you've done 5000 miles, and have a heavy foot, a couple of quarts isn't outrageous. Check it often and top it off. Goes without saying that you don't want it running a couple of quarts dry.
I'm putting a quart about every 1000 miles into mine, although as noted above, the '01s are particularly prone to it. I could drive it slower, and use less oil, but a slow Corvette is otherwise known as a Kia.
