Of course this is the C5 forum and there would be a biased opinion, but if a person considered selling their C5 to buy a C6, would they be making a mistake? I have had engine problems with my 2004 coupe, 9100 miles and have thought about trading it in. But trade in value is so low compared to retail, and will the price go up for a C5 being it is the last of the headlights??? Am I better off to just get mine fixed with the warranty and keep the car I love, or go ahead and upgrade now? I know I am in for a lot of grief with this post, but I just want an opinion.
WEll, it all depends. However Warantee needs to fix your car before you sell it. So you don't loose out too much. After the car is fixed, if you feel as though you want a C6 and can afford it go ahead and buy one.
THE PRICE OF A C5 IS NOT GOING UP, ANY LARGE AMOUNT ANYTIME SOON!!!!!
There was somethingling 30,000 cars produced a year. That's almost more than all the C1's or C2's ever produced.

You will always lose on a trade when compared to selling it yourself and then buying another car.
...especially on such a low mileage example. Get it fixed under warranty first. If you still want to sell it, try private party. Howerver, don't forget to take into account any tax advantage you may get trading the car in on a new model (ex. - only paying tax on the difference, if this is applicable for you).
As far as the C6 goes, it truly is a nice car. Give one a test drive to see how it makes you feel. Good luck w/ your decision.

VERY good point. I looked at the trade, and in Tennessee for instance, with all the taxes and fees it comes close to 8% of the purchase price. For a $55,000 2006 Z51 coupe vs my 2004 coupe, they offered me $31,000 trade-in. That makes the purchase price $24,000 instead of $55,000, resulting in a tax savings of $2500. This means I'd have to get more than $33,500 by selling it to an individual just to break even. It's gonna be REAL close, and for not having to fool with the hassle, many in my position would just trade.
Just look very closely at the whole transaction before you make your decision, and good luck
since opinions were solicited i'll weigh in w/ a few thoughts. an 04 is still under warranty; the general needs to make good on this one. also, in any buy-a-car transaction, the dealer rightly needs to make a profit; he will do so w/o consideration to your wallet. proceed with great caution. bub
I think this might not be the best time to sell a car. Early spring usually is best. Although a Dealer might be looking to discount stock, you are still going to take a BIG hit.
Your car is too new with too few miles to sell.
Use it! Enjoy it!
The problems will be fixed and there is no guaranty that a new one will have fewer problems.

This is food for thought. Get the problems fixed first. Don't pass them on to the next owner. Keep it until spring and if you still want to sell, do it.
I recommend getting it fixed first before you do anything. You wouldn't want to pass on proplems to some other Vette Brother or Sister. After it's fixed then decide.

I really hate hearing problems like you've had. My '99 d/d coupe has just under 100k on it and I've had less problems in 7 years than I had with my last Honda. Just came back from toying with the dealer and test driving a C6 and I'll keep my old dependable C5 after that ride.

You should definitely come out ahead selling the car yourself - a dealer will not give you a good price for the car in most cases. Nothing wrong with wanting a C6 - they are nice cars.
