I continue to be amazed at the amount of attention these cars get. We just completed a road trip from Southern California to Northeast Ohio & I'd like to share some highlights. First off, what a great drive & ride this car is, top up or top down.
Our first stop was the Grand Canyon & after sightseeing we stopped to eat. When we were done I was putting the top down when a woman behind me said " wow, what a great car". As we say thank you her husband says " that's not a great car, that's a fabulous car. We're from Germany & we appreciate cars over there." After a visit we proceed to Williams, Az & cruise through the towns rt 66 section. As we go down the street a young male voice comes out of the darkness, " I want to drive your car". My wife laughs & as we go further down the street 3 female voices call "we like your car".
Our next stop was the Painted Desert. As we're parked at an overlook taking pictures, a lady offers take a picture with both of us next to the vette. As she hands the camera back, she looks at our car & says "I just told my husband, now that's the way to travel". At the next overlook we were talking with another couple from Ohio when I glanced back at our vette. A young man (late teens) was taking pictures of our car while his girl was giggling. As I passed him on the way to the car I asked him if he got some good pictures. He nervously answered yes & he was sorry. (BY the way, he also was from Europe) I told him there was nothing to be sorry about & asked if he'd like to get some pictures of himself sitting in the vette. He declined at first & I said come on, I'll put the top down. With his girl pushing him on, his buddy took some photo's of him, with the biggest smile you'll ever see, sitting in our Corvette.
There were numerous smiles, waves & comments in between & at our other stops but I don't want to write a book
We had a 70 vert for the 70's but don't recall reactions as intense or often as today. All we can say is, WHAT A CAR.
Thats a cool story.
It is pretty wild how much attention they get, I get comments all the time just driving around this $hitty town, and the cars filthy!!
(Some guy trying to make himself look good in front of his two lady friends in the walmart parking lot yesterday as I was pulling out told me to light em up, i looked at him like hes a retard and said no. He then goes on to say,"oh, daddy wont let you huh". I laughed and drove away. Now i think about it i wish i got out and beat his face )

I would say, "dude these tires cost more than most cars parked here". Or something like, "Hey why don't you get your car out too; let's light em up together, but you go first"... Hate these *****...
BTW, a great story. I experienced that last year, when I drove from MI to CA. I live in CA, bought the car from MI. I know what you mean, and that was my first day in ANY Corvette..
Great story! Glad you had such a good experience traveling, it makes it that much more fun. As to the 70's, I'm not surprised you didn't get the attention back then, there were too many other things going on that were FAR more "fabulous" than cars to a lot of people unfortunately. Thanks for sharing the story!

Great story - and good job letting that young guy from Europe sit in your car! That's what owning a Corvette is all about! Personally, I have always aspired to be a Corvette Ambassador - to spread the gospel if you will. We've all heard the old joke about Corvettes and porcupines......
I want non-Corvette owners to realize that we are not all like the "quills" on the porcupine!
