Default Rear View Mirror - Bumps

When I go over what I consider a minor bump (expansion joint from road surface to bridge for example) my rear view mirror moves a bit down and I have to readjust it. The alternative is to hold my hand to the mirror at each bump. Does anyone else have this problem and what have you done about it?

Mine does it too, but I just haven't taken the time to really look it over to see if I can fix it in some way.

Maybe someone will chime in that's fixed this problem.

well, I haven't fixed it yet but I did take it off the windshield and coated the ball (as well as I could anyway) with silicon to try to get it sticky - after the silicon dried I think it has helped the situation a little, but it has not resolved it totally. The ball fits very tightly into the socket though, so I think most of the silicon is being taken off when the mirror moves.
