I received a letter from gmac wanting to give me a quote on auto insurance. Does anyone have their insurance thru them? If so whats your opinion on them? Thanks guys
I haven't had a ticket or a claim in over ten years, and their quote was almost double what I'm paying Nationwide for an 03 Vette, 06 GXP and 06 Colorado.
I even tried them again four months later, and it was the same deal.
I'm 55yrs old and the wife is 53.
I'll stick with Nationwide.
I've gotten quotes from other companies claiming cheap ins. and they have all been higher than Nationwide.
From: Alhambra Calismognazifornia, in the country everyone comes just to complain but won't go back home!
i have them and the rate for my two cars has been untouchable by even the discount insurance companies, however, i get a discount through my employer so i can't tell you how their standard pricing would compare.
couldn't tell you how their service is as i haven't had to make any claims. i did, however, have one ticket go on my record and my rate did not go up. their policy considers one ticket as a "good" driving record. i get group discount, good driver discount, lojack discount, multi-car discount, "secondary vehicle" (on the vette) discount, and garage-parked discount
They only use GM panels...! When i get a vette i am going to go with them they have been in line with everyone elses quotes, 115/mo i am 22 and have one ticket (5 over) but i havent looked into nationwide yet
I have had previous contact with USAA (owned a product, received a quote, been listed on a policy, etc.).

I received a quote from GMAC auto insurance when I was first looking for a 'Vette. $1100.00 for SIX months. Wow!!! I have a clean record (no accidents, no tickets) and am currently paying $600.00 for 1 year. This includes more than minimum coverage, $500 deductible, and the car is listed for pleasure driving only (limited mileage). I am 56.
P.S.: I did not go with GMAC.

Thanks for your reply. But, being retired US Military is not good enough if one doesn't fit into another qualifying category. There was a time when the only way one could be USAA was if you were commissioned. That's why I never joined them in the first place. Non-commissioned wasn't good enough for them.
I just clicked on their web page and checked that I was retired military from 30 Jun 1994. The next screen told me that I did not meet their qualifications to join. At first I was shocked to see that, because they had only asked that one question, my date of retirement, and then told me I did not qualify. I believe this is based on the fact that enlisted people retire on the 30th day of the month and officers retire on the first day of the month. As soon as they see you retired on the 30th you are classified as an inferior insurance risk and are denied the opportunity to join.
And the "ole better than thou fraternity marches on"

Wasn't it great, my rates have only gone up now that they allow NCOs to join.
Now get over it and go for the best rate.
There was a time when the United States and the military didn't allow certain people "in" for various reasons but now they have lowered their standards allowing all kinds of people in.

I guess you checked. It was my understanding that you would qualify. Sorry about that. I've been with USAA since '79 when I went from E8 to O1 for auto, home, boat, IRA. It's great when they have a good year and you get a big check back.
I retired in 1991, and also wasn't good enough. One of the reasons I never looked their way when I was on active duty. I have been with New York Central for 20+ years now and their rates have been unbeatable by anyone who has tried so far, including the so called discounted ones through an affiliation like USAA, ect.. So I guess I will stay.
As far as a carrier goes they are great. The only use OEM replacement parts and have good discounts for ANY GM relations whether its a GM employee, GM credit card, Ditech loan , etc.
Their underwriting are that great for our Vettes but its hard for people to compare insurance because something as simple as your zip code can make as much as a $30 a month or more difference ..... There is NO ONE company that is cheapest for everyone hence the reason California alone has over 100 different insurers. Shop around and find out what works for ya.
PS - Im in the insurance industry if you were wondering
