I have a 2000 with 35k and am thinking about doing a full flush this fall. Coolant, tranny, oil and differential. Regarding the differential is this even needed past the "nice to have" thing? The service manual makes it look so easy that for $25 I might as well do it. I subscribe to the ounce of prevention club.
Another question is fluid type. I have heard some good things about Amsoil from another thread but I am unsure if I still need to add the limited slip additive with it. I also am considering the Royal Purple stuff... For reference if anyone needs the info SM states you need 1.6 qts of lube to do a flush. Or was that 1.7
Since you profess being a member of the club.....An ounce of prevention never hurts, nor does 4 oz of GM limited slip additive.(regardless of which brand 75W90 synthetic gear oil you buy)

I believe the service manual actually states 1.69 quarts.
The AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 comes with the friction modifier already in it and adding extra modifier is not normally needed. I've been using this fluid for several seasons and my diff has never chattered so I've never added extra modifier.
I believe the downside to adding to much modifier is that the diff clutch plates will slip excessively, meaning you have lost some of the diff's limited slip ability.
