[Z06] Corvette Bob Keeps Sidewinder
"When we test our cars, we do what any consumer does. We go to the local dyno shop, they
set the car up according to standard proceedure, with the hood up, and conduct the runs.
Jim has indicated that he is now having his car tested independently, which is the best way
to go about it, and it also sounds like he is allowing more relearn time with the stock set-up. I
for one eagerly await these new results.
This new independent testing may reinforce Jim's assertion that hood-down testing is required
to show gains with the Sidewinder.
If this is so, I will stand by these new independent results, keep my Sidewinder, endorse the
product, and support that these results simulate real world intake conditions more so than
standard hood-up testing.
Let's stay tuned, and hope that Jim will share these new results with the forum."
I have seen Gen II's poll etc. The point is this: No one should in any way disgregard the Sidewinder based on the forum threads, especially, as Jim is now conducting new independent tests.
I was encouraged by Jim's efforts (and a lot by Ranger's times), so I put the Sidewinder back on my '02, for one last SOTP try, and it does feel faster than the stock box, especially once the car is moving, and at higher RPM. Also, it looks great, and makes exhaust sound louder.
So I got to thinking...
...and guess what, I'm going to keep it because it feels noticeably faster.
So you might ask "why not wait for Jim's new results to decide?" Well, how do any of us know, with absolute certainty, that any static machine (Dyno) can simulate (and measure w/ hood up/down/off/on/sideways/etc.) the performance of a modification which is to be used in a totally different environment: THE ROAD.
Also, Ranger's running 12.1's.
So I'm gonna keep mine, and recommend one to you. If you want to know how much power it makes, for sure, without any disputes, bury the throttle on the road.
