Default Bittersweet day

After months of dealing with water leak issues and fixes, I returned my MS '04Z back to Carmax today. (unfortunately wasn't without a fight from Carmax, I will never buy a car from them again)

Two different shops and four different times my car was supposed to be "fixed" only to have it leak. Since I bought the car from Carmax, it spent more time in the shop that in my driveway. This last time it was "fixed", I realized no matter how much I love the car, ultimately I would never be able to trust it.

The upside is that just over a week ago I bought an '07Z to replace it, however as some other people have stated on this forum, I personally feel that my '04 was much more fun to drive around town. There is actully quite a bit I will miss about that car.

My '07 is overall faster than the c5 however it doesn't have that "snappy", raw quick feeling that the '04 has. I sometimes feel like I am driving a Lexus.

Anyways, if any of you are thinking about buying a MS '04 Z at Roseville Carmax (Nor-Cal), beware. (Vin# 1G1YY125345120070) The car may or may not be completely fixed. It's my kind of luck that now I had them buy it back, the car will probably be trouble free for years to come.

I appriciate all the info I have gained from the C5 forum. Enjoy your C5 Z, it is a great, fun car.

Sorry to hear of your problems but it sounds like all is well since you now have an 07 C6Z

I too have an 04 MS C5Z that I absolutely love but since I never drive it in the rain, I will never know if it leaks or not

But I hand wash it myself and I've never noticed any water getting inside of the vehicle (and I usually spray a ton of water on it prior to soaping); I believe my Z is ok but how do you test for water leaks?

Congrats on the C6Z, but watch out for that roof problem.

LOL...sad but true.

Got rid of one problem for a potential bigger problem.

Meaning I would have a much bigger water leak if my roof blows off from delamination on the C6.

Is this a real big issue with the new Vettes? Has GM recognized this and do they have a fix or have they put out a recall for it? Reason I ask is, I have placed an order for my 07 Z and might want to reconsider!

Thanks -

I'm not sure where they are in replacing the tops with the new improved version. They have acknowledged it and I think they have the fix in place now for cars being built. I love the C6 and will be getting one soom myself.

It was a problem on the C6 coupe, but not the Z. The C6Z doesn't have a removable roof like the coupe. It's an FRC like the C5.

At least, that's what the Chevy website shows...

Caravaggio sells a kit to make a C6Z a removable top if you really want it...

There's a Corvette dealer by my office that has one. Here it is...

What happens is the colored top seperates from the framework. Z or coupe.

Incorrect, the C6Z also has a problem with the roof delaminating, check the C6Z threads. Some C6Z owners must use tape to hold the roof down. The C6Z is not a true FRC....its a hatchback.
