It seems like everytime I log on the forum there are 3 more posts about column lockups. This morning I finally just ordered a CLB from corvettes of houston with a shippping arrival of 5-7 days so I hope it doesn't lockup before then.
I also hope that the install is simple as my electrical skills are in the duh range.
JD, if you can use a torx driver and can unplug and replug an electrical connector you will be fine....
Getting the knee bolster off, then back on is the most difficult part - that is unless you count the contortions you have to go through to get under the dash....
Don't know about the "worry free" part. I have a CLB on my A4 98. When I started the car up to go to a show yesterday, I got the "Pull key and wait 10 seconds" message, then "service column lock" one.
After some searching on the forum, I found a message that said to put the key in the ignition, and turn it to the "run" position. Next pull the #23 fuse in the passenger footwell, wait 10 seconds, then replace the fuse. Take the key out of the ignition, wait 10 minutes, then try to start the car. Well, what do you know - it worked! I was a little nervous going to the show, but everything was ok and i even took a 3rd place trophy in the C5 class.
This fix is supposed to reset things when different components get out of synch, like rebooting your PC when it hangs up. I don't know if the 10 second and 10 minute times are critical - all I can tell you is that it worked for me, and a big thank you to whoever posted the message.

I thought getting the connector unplugged was the hardest part.
