I'd still be fighting to get the lambo door package opened after it was delivered... No talent here for doing that type of work. If I had a trusty and experienced installer of these near Chicago I'd be tempted..

Putting my opinion about the looks aside, I have 2 problems with add-on Lambo-style doors. Every car that I have looked at with these doors installed, the installation is very flimsy. I could even see the doors waving in the wind when they were open. Maybe there is a properly engineered kit to do this, but I have not seen one yet. The other problem is the method for opening and closing the door. The ones that I have seen involve a 2-motion procedure for opening or closing the door. To open, you first push out and then lift up. I suppose that is fine for the owner who understands this but it seems like it would be very easy to damage these hinges if a passenger who did not understand the procedure just tried to push the door open or just lift up. If he tried to close the door quickly, it seems very prone to damage. Having to train passengers on how to open and close the door does not seem to me to be an acceptable procedure.

Don’t buy the kit on eBay. I did and lost $1,000
I’ve bought over 200 items on eBay but this was a good scam. I got my attorney involved but she said in the long run it would cost me more money in the end. She even sent them a letter with threats but she was correct. They closed shop and opened another one in a different name. She shut them down again but I’m sure they’re out there somewhere ripping more people off.

I looked into most of the kits on eBay and found out by the buyers that they were junk.
If you like the lambo look you’re going to have to spend the 2000 – 2500 for the good kit.

The only person I know that has a good kit said he has to adjust the doors often. I don’t know if that’s true with all the kits but I do like the way the doors fly up.

Not something I would ever do to a car I owned, but I'm sure it'll look hot when you're done. Take your time and do it right.

[QUOTE=vectorz]Mine's not as flashy as Jim's, and it's not a Honda either (thanks for your opinioin Jetz but nobody asked), but here you go

I think posting ones opinion is still allowed on this forum.

Seems you're taking it kinda personal, like I'm attacking YOUR car, which odd since I posted before you, and it was not directed at anyone, but a generalization so chill!

If someone say's they don't like something about my car, I don't get defensive, and start typing "thank's for your opinion, but nobody asked"!
Hey, that's their opinion, and they're allowed!

If you like them enough to get them, fine, but not for me for free personally. There have been lots of threads of poor fitment/quality issues, plus they will affect your resale.

Frank

There is a side to the lifting door debate that I never see mentioned...everyone focuses on the looks. When I first saw a C5 with lift doors, it was on a show car. and It drew a lot of visial attention to itself.

HOWEVER,..... After driving my C5 for over a year in REAL WORLD everyday conditions, I have encountered several ocassions where parking was at a premium and the entry/exit due to restricted space was like a qualifying for a contorsionist convention. Sometimes you have VERY little room to open the door, like next to a wall, or beside a high curb. You can't always look for a better sopt to park, sometimes the ONLY spot available really sucks. I have thought long and hard about getting a set of lift doors for just those ocassions! I have been told that the set with 2 gas cylinders per door is the best one, don't recall the brand.

Lambo doors, on a Lambo, hinge in one motion, up, The fact that Corvette lift doors first have to go out a bit, and then up, differentiates them from Lamborghini and I dont think is is corrcect to refer to Corvette out-and-up lift doors as Lambo doors.

2 cents........more or less

I don't think the extra entry/exit clearance does you any good. If you park that close to another car, when the other car opens his door he is going to bang your car up. Sure, you can get in and out OK, but the guy next to you can't. If every car had vertical opening doors, this argument would make sense.

Do a search for LSD doors on Google. I saw them at the SEMA show last year and their set up uses 2 shocks to support the door. The kit looks incredibly well made and their web site lists installers in your area. Definetly something I plan 2 do when $ permits.

I like the doors as well. However, I am a little hesitant to have them installed because of potential issues. I was talking with a C5 owner this weekend at a car show who has them installed on his car...He did just about everything to talk me out of them. From constantly aligning them to showing me some damage that they have caused sought of made up my mind. Seems that his S/O just pulled the door closed like you would any other door - the door striker was not lined up - damaged the door jam and the edge of the door. He showed me the damage - Not a pretty sight.

Not that I'd discourage anybody from doing whatever the heck they wanted to their own car, but I think these kinds of mods are better suited to the show crowd rather than the daily driver crowd. If you fall somewhere in between then you've got a real decision to make but at either end of the spectrum, it seems the decision is made for you.

As far as looks, I think the doors are more appropriate LOOKING on a corvette rather than, say, a '85 Aries K car so what's the problem? Sports cars can pull off the look better than sedans and the like.

I think the bestthing to do is ask Vectorz what he thinks about his doors since he did post his pics. So Vectorz would you recommend the doors and do you have all these problems?

this part scares me, fenders are somewhat cheap, but cutting the doors doesn't look like fun

A buddy of mine dropped his '06 Z06 off for these doors and was terribly disappointed when he received a call saying that it couldn't be done. Something about the vent in the fender. He was told that it was possible but the fender would lose all strength and could come loose just by touching it. I told him that some things were meant to be.
