Default Water Pump Help

It seems my water pulp is going.... one more thing... it is a good thing I like this car so much.. at least it is not another electrical problem....

question.. how hard is this to change and does anyone have detailed instructions?

the tough one.. a friend who supposedly knows about Vettes said I also had to chnage the distributor when I change the water pump which makes no sense to me.... is this true?

please help....

C5 doesn't have a distributor.

If it was a LT1 yes (92-96), but you have a LS1 and anyone that knows Corvettes know that a LS1 does not have a dist. It's about a hour job not to bad

Default Not hard to do... on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a 4.

Sorry about not being able to give more technical details. In Iraq with the Army right now. I replaced mine a couple of years ago on my 98.

Be sure and get a good gasket.

I had a bad gasket so replaced the pump at the same time. Got it at NAPA. Fair price. The gasket is metal with rubber O rings around the holes. Beats the factory paper stuff hands down.

If I remember:
Pull the serpentine belt.
Remove the hoses to the pump. Time for a flush and fill on antifreeze anyway.
Remove the four bolts holding the pump on. Long sockets or extension helps.
May have to tap it with a hammer and block of wood to break it free. Don't let it fall.
Now is the time to flush the system with the water hose. You get all the old fluid out. Great.
Use some RTV sealent to hold the gasket in place on the new pump, start the bolts. Torque to spec. or good and tight (technical talk) but don't over do it.

Hope this helps. It is easier than on my Tahoe. On it I had to remove the fan too.
It takes maybe two hours, including the flush on the radiator, to do this job. Real nice Saturday project.

Peace Out.
