Default 2000 vert rear window

Anyone have the rear window come loose from the top on a C5? Called dealer to fix and they can't do it. Corvette specialist shop in local area suggested glass shop for adhesive used in installing windshields but if you've ever seen that stuff, it's pretty thick.Called the glass shop and they said go to an upholstery shop. The glass looks like it is glued to a plastic framework of some sort. The plastic frame is still firmly attached to the top. Getting no where fast!

I just went through this. A good 20" along the top and around one side of the glass had seperated. After searching high and low for help with no avail, I reserched online and found "Amazing Goop". That stuff is holding like steel. Nothing else I tried worked worth crap. It comes in a tube and you can find it at any hardware store including Ace, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc . . .

The Goop can be really messy so take your time and have plenty of clean rags around. First, I removed most of the old adhesive from the area where the the roof was coming undone using a putty knife. Then, I put the roof about 1/2 up and propped up the back side of it to help seperate the cloth from the window in order to get the glue in there. Next, I applied a "generous but thin" thin line of the Goop to both the cloth side and the glass side and let it sit for 3-4 minutes (per Goop instructions). Next, I used a piece of 2 x 4 to prop the glass up from the inside and seal it with the cloth. Then I just pressed the two together from the inside and outside (make sure you dont have Goop on your fingers when you do this or it will be all over your roof!) I used masking tape to hold everything in place until the glue set. Within just a couple of hours it was stuck.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I just took my time and it went pretty easy.

MattyPC -

Thanks for the great information. My MY 2000 vert is experiencing the same problem. I'm glad to hear the goop is working and I'm not going to have to replace the whole vert top.

Thank God for the corvette forum. It's great that we can share our experiences and learn from each other.
