Please does flame me for this question but what does a good tune entail? I have only had my C5 a few months so I have'nt had the pleasure of a tune up. But am interested to know what I will need and which parts are best.
I pulled my PCM off and sent it to Chuck at CoW. It doesn't drive like the same car! You won't believe the power GM left behind. Give him a call and he will answer any question you migh have. 914-332-0049

I'm very pleased
I agree, Chuck did my 2005 C-6 Vette automatic. I wasn't overly impressed with the car when I first got it, but when Chuck got done tuning it.........................Holy S**T!!! Huge difference.

Me Three- Chuck at Corvettes of Westchester tuned my '99 Coupe, A4 and you'd think it was a different car because it picked up so much in performance but still drove well under normal conditions, well worth the $$$.
So thats basically what a 'tuner' does when you bring your car in, say after a new exhaust system? They play with the PCM?
Or is there other things they tinker with?
Oh, and ballpark how much would a regular tune run a guy?

How are you. It is actualy alot more complicated than just quickly "playing with the PCM" although I guess you could call it that. There are alot of tables that are optimized when your car gets tuned. Timing, airflow, torque management, shift points, fan speeds to name only a few. Also a real good tuner (like Chuck at COW!!) knows exactly what kind of tune to do for you based on the modifications you have done to your car. As far as price Chuck charges around $500.00 for his tune and the great thing is with Chuck you pay once and only once. If you do anything to your car later on down the road that would require him to re-tune, you pay $0.00. Also when Chuck first tunes your car at his shop he tunes it, you and him take it for a road test so he can check and log everything in the computer and then he will make any needed adjustments, this is done with multiple road tests!! So when your done you have a fully optomized tune for YOUR CAR!!. Hope this helps.
Cool, thanks for the info GANGSTERMIKE.
Im also pretty new to the corvette and non carbed engine thing as well, like the original poster. Also I live out in the boonies with no tuner near that i know of,yet.
I hear ya, but keep in mind that if you take your PCM out of your Vette you can send it to Chuck. Just tell him what mods you have (if any) and he will set you up with a real nice tune. He has been doing alot of mail order tuning lately.
I also had my "tune" by Chuck. He came to Florida on vacation and we spent at least 5 hours working on the tune. He has a basic set of parameters and then fine tunes it to your style of driving. We must have "flashed" the PCM 30 to 40 times until I was compleatly happy with the way the car ran. As far as peak horsepower I probibly lost some. I never drive much at WOT so we worked on bottom and mid range preformance. As others have said it's a totally different car. I couldn't be happier. Well worth the money. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip!
PCM being fed-exed to Chuck on Monday! I'll let you know how it goes!
Would a normal speed shop anywhere in the US be able to do the same thing Chuck does or is he simply "the best"? My car is a DD and I really cant afford to have the PCM out of it for any extended amount of time.

I'm guessing the OP is asking about a 'tune-up' rather than a PCM tune
If that's the case, check your plugs (may want to have plug wires handy in case you break one) and change if needed, change/clean your airfilter and flush your clutch and brake fluids. Overall the LS1's are pretty reliable and don't really require that much attention.

Your welcome for the info. Can't wait to hear from you when you get your PCM back from Chuck. I'm sure you will have a grin that just won't go away!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the hijack...had to ask though
Hello, I would just call Chuck and find out when is the best time to send him your PCM so that way he can get it right back to you.
