Default Help me decide

Should I spend money on a full exhaust, under drive pulley, and Dyno tune ($3,500-$4,000) on my 00' Vette to satisfy my mod fever or just drive it stock and save the money towards a 06'/07' ZO6?
The 00' is paid off and I want more HP. I know I could Supercharge or Procharge or do a heads and cam but I don't think I want to do all these upgrades to get ZO6 HP to my stock looking 00'.
I like the more exotic look of the new ZO6. Maybe I should just do an underdrive pulley with a dyno tune to hold me over. I probably won't be able to purchase the ZO6 until 2-3 years. I'm hoping by then that I can get a used one for alot cheaper than they are currently going for.
What would you do?

If you really want the C6 Z06, save your cash for that. Not sure what they will be selling for in 2-3 years, but its one heck of a machine.

Save your money and mod your car.

LPE (21st Century) can provide more HP than the C6Z06 with a few of their mods.

As a note - until GM does something to fix the roof issues with the C6 (and Z06) buying one is likely to cause you to be Vette- less

If the roof fails, they keep your Vette (Z06) until it can be A) replaced, B) fixed.

Last but not least: there is no assurances as of yet that the 'fix' is going to be a long term remedy. Thus, after the warranty period expires you may get stuck with out of your pocket

I don't think that the roof panels on the ZO6 are removable , therefore, I don't think flying roof panels are an issue with the 06'/07' ZO6. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct that the 2006 Z06 is a FRC. However, there is a mod to change it to a removable top. When I was in Orlando, I stopped in at Rogers Corvettes. They have a 2006 Z06 and we were talking about it. It doesn't have the mod, but he showed me how to remove the liner and explained what needed done to change the roof out. Very interesting. I've been looking on the web for details, but haven't seen them yet.

I wouldn't bet on an '06 or '07 Zo6 being "a lot cheaper" in 2-3 years! They go for 15-20k over sticker now, maybe in 2 or 3 years you can buy a used one for the original sticker price, but I'll bet not much less than that!

Uhhhh...you sure about that? Since when does the Z06 have a removeable roof? I thought the problem was only with the removeable roofs on the coupes.

I understood that the roof separation was also an issue on the Z - maybe I am mistaken.

The issue is not the top 'flying' - it is the separation of the top 'plastic' from the frame.

I am sure that I read the Z06 is also affected - but will try and verify

Throw a nice cam, springs, LT headers, UD Pulley, LS6 intake and ported TB and tune. The right combination will put you over 400RWHP and cost less than $3,500.

Thanks

Yes - I also checked out the C6Z06 section and found at least 3 posts.

I thought I was correct as there is a C6Z06 at Huffines that has roof separation.

Mod the C5 and enjoy it now. It may be a long time before you can get a C6 Z06.
