With 2 months to go on my original warranty (3yr) my Optima decided to call it quits today when I went to start up my baby. Well the good news is that it was replaced for free at the Boys and I have a new replacement warranty. I figured out how and why Optima says their batteries last twice as long as other batteries.....it includes the replacement but I will give them props on thier replacement warranty . No hassels!

Well, at least it died when you still had the free replacement warranty in effect. Sorry you had the problems. I guess I've been lucky since I've had my optima for almost 5 years and not one problem.
The Optima Red top is what I have,, In Canada we have a 10yr warranty.. seems to be a good battery. I know a lot of readers knock it.. but so far so good..

Question for you Optima owners: before it dies on you, do you notice high voltmeter readings (~15 - 16 volts) right after startup that reduce to ~14 volts after a few miles of driving? If so, I think I may be getting a warning sign from my Camaro...

Most of the time weird electrical stuff starts to happen. For me, sometimes when I used my FOB to unlock my doors, the parking lights would not come on. One day it was fine and the next it was dead and I do mean dead. Pep Boys put it on a machine for 40 min to charge it and it would not hold the charge.

The red top Optima in my Camaro Z28 just quit a month after I bought it. Lucky for me it was sitting in my garage when it failed. I put a regulated battery charger on it and the charger cables got hot and the automatic charger circuit tripped the unit off. Great things those electronic battery chargers! Took the battery back to Autozone and they replaced it free under warranty. It could only hold 2.7 volts! Batteries are crap shoots. You either get a good one or a bad one. You just don't know until the end.
I STILL have the original battery in the car and Its a "99" F.R.C. no problums at all !!! we get cold in the winter and hot in the summer! the trick might be I allways let the car cool down and leave the hood open for about an hour or so. I do think that the heat soak is over time a big effect on life of the car in general! no big deal just an opinion and It does work for me.

Yup,same as me. I was thinking about getting an Optima before because I've read about horror stories about the GM AC DELCO batteries being drained prematurely and leaking as well. I think they solved the leaking problems on 03's but still have the mysterious short life spanned batteries even in 04 models. But almost 4 years later-still going strong, I don't even disconnect the battery every winter, but then again, I drive it through nice weather snow free winter days anyway. (Better watch out for Murphy's Law) I think I just jinxed myself.

I did not notice high readings at all. It is just dying on me...I suspect it is a bad cell, I'll know when I get it tested and come home with a new one today!

IMO more to do with your factory battery not being the AGM type (which had all the C5 failures starting 2000/2001) then a heat soaking issue.
I had a better record than you. One I bought was bad from day one. Gave me fits until I took it back to Advance Auto where a test showed it was manufactured bad. They gave me a new one no hassle.
Almost every person I have spoken to that has had a Red Top says if you leave the car sit for more than 2 weeks , it dies, that's why I have not bought one yet.
