I got it back from the install a couple of days ago and have no complaints about the install. It has taken a while to get all of the functions down. Take a look at the pics in my gallery and sorry about the flash.
I am thinking of the same HU when I get back from deployment (it's already wife approved ).
Did you do speakers all at the same time?
How does it sound?
Who did the install(cost)?
How are the functions of the nav working for you?
What's it sounds like!
Thanks for the info! This forum is great for those of us away from home!
I had the Pioneer Avec nav system in my Z. It was only ok. I have since gone back to the stock radio. My Palm Treo with the nav system application does as good or better than the Pioneer. What I really didn't like with the flip out screen was that it totally blocks the center air vent. diverting the cold air to the defroster vents or elsewhere just didn't do it. Too hot for a California car.
The Pioneer unit went out of their way to make seemingly simple adjustments a ROYAL pain. I could change a tire in less time than it took to pre-set stations and balance preferences. The volume dial required multiple revolutions before sound level was even modestly changed, again a real pain. Hope you have a better experience with your's, I am spoiled with having a nav system. I will probably fabricate a center trim piece to allow a fixed screen double din nav/stereo unit.
I had the install done by a shop in STL are called custom sound $200 I leave the flip screen down untill car cools off on hot days then flip it up. I have the stock speakers for now have plans to upgrade at a later date. The sound is at least as good as stock.

although i do not agree with it being hard to make adjustments, I do agree with the the fact that it blocks the air vents....exactly the same reason why my Avic N2 is sitting in my closet.

Just leave the screen down untill the car cools down after that the a/c is still blowing into the cabin just not right at your face.

I've always wondered if any C5 guys have done this yet! I never see any custom fix screen DVD/nav units in C5. We are kinda screwed b/c of where the a/c unit is... so wouldnt this mean moving the a/c unit either up top or below (might not be enough room below?) Cuz, as it is now.. you can't just throw in a double din stero system. Don't they make smaller screens.. surely someone has fab'd a custom LCD/dvd/nav unit that can fit up top........?????????
Can someone show me pics or explain to me how people are installing double din units..? I'd rather have a fixed screen orver the flip screen.. two people have mentioned double din units in this thread. Got any pics???????
The ones I have scene require the a/c to be moved down and the radio bezel to be modified. This is a lot of work to get the texture right. If you have the talent to do that or can buy one to fit what you want I would not hesitate. I think the flat screen looks great and has a real clean install.
yes, the HVAC controls will have to be moved down a few inches (stock radio is 1.5 din) and the bezel, and OEM radio tray (where the radio sits) will have to be modified.
I did this on my 01 SS, it wasnt too hard, i can't see the vette being any harder
