* * * * Autozone - Sucks Big Time * * * *

It was still packed like a new box. How can 2 clamps get a "used" look, but just clamping on to the battery? Its simple, clamp on, clamp off. Nothing installed
.. Dang, I wish you guys would understand what I'm saying...

Now that's exactly what I should've done..

I'm all for this approach.
To all the guys ripping on the thread creator, it's a matter of principle that bothers us. Ever heard the term, the customer is always right? Ever heard about customer satisfaction? If the business cannot make it's customers happy, has to lie to make a sale, or is not willing to tell the customer the full truth about products they stock, or their return policies, those businesses do not last long in the days of Autozone, Kragen, Napa, etc. It's a dog eat dog world and I doubt this sales person will be employed there very much longer, short of a complete attitude adjustment to how she deals with customers.
This coming from someone who works in an aviation parts industry where customer satisfaction is KEY to our continual success.

i agree 100% that the guy should get the refund. the girl dropped the ball, and yes, they have to eat this one.
the "customer is always right" thing is BS. just another example of how the world is so screwed up. why is the customer always right?? why is it ok for a company to make us a product we NEED, so we can buy it, use it, then bring it back to get our money back?? what good is that for the company who is supplying us?? why is it ok for them to take a loss?? oh wait i know.... because the customer was right, and that makes it ok.
unfortunately you are right, but it really is a shame. and honestly, do you think the girl cares?? she is making $8 an hour. she will just move on to the next job. and for everyone who doesnt know.... just because someone works at autozone/pepboys/advanced doesnt mean they know ANYTHING about cars.

"She just flipped and said, "You installed it". Its like you buy a software, install it on your computer, and then try to return the CD, but you stilll have the software installed on your computer."
She may have come to AutoZone from Best Buy..

Personally, I would have probably not attempted to return the battery charger as I do not own one, and there's always a need for such tools when you spend any mechanical time working on vehicles, but the principle of the argument, would make me go out of my way to return it, to prove a point to the sales person. In which case, I would probably buy the battery charger from another sales clerk, or from another store altogether.
I hope this issue is resolved with as little pain on both parties as possible, and will end my posting in this thread, as I have stated my ******* opinion and have nothing further to add to this discussion.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

After getting a basic set of hand tools, I would say that a battery charger is probably the next most important and indispensible tool you could have in your lifetime collection of tools. I have a basement and garage full of tools but I would willingly part with most of them before giving up my battery charger.
I do however now have a trickle charger that I keep on my Vette as it is a garage queen (weekend driver only). If the charger you bought is the top of the line charger, it probably has the trickle charge feature on it. Keep it and be happy!

. Once we grow out of it, we can see the issue is something else though. It was never my intention to get a high end charger. I wanted a battery, but since Autozone batteries were around $40-$60, she adviced I get the $70 charger (which actually begin at $20). She was in for making a decent commission after she found out the battery was on a Corvette. I guess she was trying to keep her Sales numbers high that day. Anyways, as many have suggested here that I should get a trickle/battery charger, I will. They usually come for under $20. And I can get them from Walmart, where service is better. SO, humor us some more man.. We need to keep that humor alive in any situation anyways...and you're the man for the job...

Exactly. And this box was exactly the same in new condition with everything in it. If I had not told her the truth, there's no way she would've known. I could've said, I didn't use it, didn't need to. That's it. But she was already in a bad mood when she saw be bring it in the store for return. She knew, she's gonna get her commission reversed or something... So, she came off in a bad and rude manner to begin with, after making me stand at the counter for 5 minutes, while she was simply cleaning the counter, and not attending to me.
Anyhow... I realize things happen, but this is not an acceptable way of doing business in today's day and age, when we can buy everything from Ebay and other online sites.
