Default Wheel Balance, HELP PLEASE!!!!

Hey guys, I purchased a set of CCW 505A's (amazing quality and very happy with the rims)and had them mounted and balanced at a local shop, The wheels balanced but they required alot of weight and the car vibrates like crazy when up around 65-70. I need to get these rebalanced and would like to have the wheels and tires match balanced (tires moved to different locations on the rim to get the best balance- just in case you use a different term than me) does anyone know of a good shop in the New York City area that could handle this??

I would strongly recommend that you locate a shop that has a Hunter GPS9700 Road Force balancing machine and have your wheels and tires road force balanced. Here is a link to Hunter's web site equipment locator. This site will list shops that have this equipment, and from my search using your zip code from your profile.....there are a bunch of 'em!

The shop can often turn the heavy side of the tire so that it is opposite the heavy side of the wheel to reduce or even eliminate the need for a lot of weights. The shop that you select just has to be willing to put a little effort in the task. I would expect to pay about $25 a wheel here in Arizona for this.....

You may want to post this in the regionals section as well.

However, for your case, you want to have them road-force balanced. This will detect vibrations so the tech can know where the vibrations are coming from and fix them (if he can) before you put all four corners back together and ride off, only to find out they still vibrate.

Type in your zipcode. These shops listed have road-force testing capabilities with this machine.

Is "veteran" just a polite way to call me an "old fart"?

Agree with all said above. I "had" a vibration in the rear of my stock tire/rim coupe. Road forced & gone !

Went to Discount tire today and had mine balanced today. The manager there was a fellow firefighter and being a C5 owner himself, he helped me out. He was able to put the stick on weights behind the spokes so that they were not visible. The vibration is gone. Thumbs up for Discount and the Firefighter Brootherhood.

My guess is that your original balance job is just wrong, or you have something else wrong with car.

Road Force compensates for crap tires, ie excessive lateral and radial runout, uneven tread wear (used tires) etc.

High school kids at Walmart balance mine on an old Coates machine and they don't vibrate at 140 MPH.
