I was looking at a C5 with a retractable hard top, with an automatic, and was told it's was a converted ZO6 (Very nice Vette)
In looking at Kelly Blue Book (kbb) the 6-speed was the only option
Did Chevrolet offer a ZO6 with a auto?

If they did, I'd already have one. Z06 was only offered with a 6-speed manual.

Check the VIN - all Z06's were built as 6-speeds. If it's really a "converted" Z06, it will have a "1" (Hardtop) as the 6th digit, and a "6" (LS6) as the 8th digit.

The 4th digit in the VIN is the clue....
1YY07=Coupe
1YY67=Convertible
1YY37=Fixed Roof Coupe or Z06
My guess is that it's a convertible with a few upgrades to make it look like a Z06 - in other words, it's badge engineered. There are significant differences between a Z06 and a coupe or convertible. It's a lot more than a badge, some red fuel rail covers and wheels.
