I Have A Problem With The Gas Pedal On My 01 Vette It Keeps Coming Off I've Had It To A Chevy Delaer And Their Tech Put It Back On It Only Lasted A Few Weeks Before It Came Off Again Any Suggestions
The coiled part of the spring is trapped by the push pin that holds the plastic pedal to the pedal lever. Maybe the pin is backing out? The bent loop at the end goes over the top of the lever. Maybe the spring simply needs more tension?
I just installed the ELITE ENGINEERING gas pedal and dead pedals myself. For those products, you use the same spring, but the pin is replaced with a bolt. You might need another pedal, spring and retaining pin. You might be able to tap the plastic pedal and use a long screw (8-32 or 10-32) to replace the pin if it's the culprit. It's difficult to access the gas pedal, but study the images below and you can see it's not rocket science.
Look at this link to site vendor ELITE ENGINEERING to see the components and their relationship to the lever... http://www.eliteengineeringusa.com/I...Gas-Pedal.html

Go ahead and unplug the wire harness and unbolt the two bolts that hold the assembly to the firewall. That's what I did to install Elite's gas pedal. Removing the whole unit from the car makes it muuuuuch easier to work on.

I have the Elite Engineering set as well - their set up with a allen head thread bolt is much better than the pin. If you don't want to take the whole thing apart (great idea, wish I'd though of that!), use a mirror placed behind the gas pedal.
