Default Finally in the 11s...

After reading Ranger's Launch Techniques and putting a a few mods on (see sig for mods, tune, and numbers). i brought the car out to Sacramento Raceway for the Friday night Test and Tune to get some seat time and check out what these mods had done to help. I am happy to report back with my first 11 sec timeslip:

It took a lot of practice!! I'm glad Sacramento Raceway has nights like this where drag racers can lay down down as many passes as they want to practice and tune cars.
The only downside is that I may be in the market for a new clutch and hydraulics soon. The stock LS6 clutch doesn't seem to be holding up. I am experiencing the dreaded clutch pedal to the floor after every burnout and pass down the strip, also the 3rd to 4th shift doesn't seem as smooth as the others, i am feeling a bit of slippage there.

I posted a thread a while back regarding track times and got lots of feedback from fellow CF members. Thanks for the input!! I highly recommend reading Ranger's write up on launch techniques for those having difficulty launching their car at the strip.

i know how that feels, i wan running 12.2-12.4 consistently and thought i was never gonna get there, but i guarantee you will. it does take a lot of seat time at the track. i swear i must have made 15-20 passes last night just dialing stuff in and its still far from being decent.

I was around 95 degrees when it started (5pm) but it cooled down to about 75-80 by 8pm. there were hardly an street cars there. the crowd was small, not many street cars (i was the only vette). there were times when no one would be making any passes at all and it would be unusually quiet for a few minutes.

Nicely done!

Ranger helped me as well. One of his tried and true launch techniques helped me greatly!!! It takes practice, but once you get it down...it's awesome!

Congratulations on your time.

Man, no wonder the clutch was acting up.

Congrats on that 11 second slip. The first time I got my old Nova in the 11s I was totally stoked.

Congratulations on 11s, White99FRC.

What tires were you on?

Regarding your clutch, what does your clutch fluid look like? And have you been changing it?

Thanks for all the comments everyone!!

Ranger - I was running on some BFG DRs 295/35/18
I actually have not checked or changed my clutch fluid. Is there something I should be looking for? Color?

I suspect you'll find the clutch fluid is the source of your pedal issues.

With that in mind, here are three clutch fluid issue threads to review:

Clutch Pedal Woes--Fluid Impact

Clutch Hydraulic Fluid--the Chevy Spec

Clutch Pedal Woes--Fluid Changing Kit

I never let my clutch fluid get really dark (e.g. out of control). Closest I get to "nasty" is dark amber, during and after making passes. So, using my kit, I change it:

(1) Night before the drags and then...

(2) after every 2-3 passes. And then...

(3) every few days until the fluid remains clear. And then...

(4) I check it each time I add gasoline. If it's not clear, I start again at (3).

This may seem obsessive. But a change take 3-4 minutes and can prevent pedal issues that would consume far more time & $$ in premature clutch replacement and collateral tranny issues.

With this protocol, my Z06 clutches gave 150-175 problem-free passes.
