Hi all, over the past couple of weeks I have noticed a very VERY small (dime size or even smaller) drip of what appears to be rear diff. fluid under my car after it sits awhile.
I took it to local transmission shop and they put it on rack and looked at it and called it a "SEEP" said that I shouldn't be losing enough fluid to hurt anything, just have it checked everytime I have oil changed and watch for any big drops to appear.
Is this good advice or should I get a 2nd opinion, & how much would a leak on a rear diff be to fix?
dont wait it only gets worse. its the output shaft seal and or o-ring
$20.00 in parts $800-$1000 in labor. its probably the left side but get both done. if your in northern n.j. i have a shop that just did mine a month ago. excelent workmanship.
Sounds like a seriously good excuse to slap some 4.10s in! No sense wasting all that labor $ just to fix a leak without getting some additional benefit from it!
Before you take it in, try draining a small amount of oil (1/4-1/2 cup) out of the diff. It could be leaking out of the breather under hard acceleration. That was my problem anyway.
