Hi,
I thought I'd introduce myself as I just made an impulsive purchase on an 01 Z06 that I know little about.
Anyway its an 01 with 13,000 miles, metallic silver (don't know the name of the color) chrome wheels, and in flawless condition. I'd like to know what I should have paid for this car, (I'll disclose my $$$ tomorrow)
No wheel locks, are there a certain type I should look for???
I have 30 days to buy an extended warranty, yes, no???
It doesn't have HUD, can I get this? How much does it cost??
I'm coming out of a Porshe 928s, which was a dog compared to the Z06

1. Spiral Gray
2. $$$ aren't important if the Vette is in good shape, and it is what you wanted.
3. Gorilla locks.
4. I doubt that a warranty is any good at this time - car is 6 years old, thus the warranty will probably be from a company that is 'fly- by- night'.
Have the car checked out by a QUALIFIED mechanic - that should assist with the decision process.
I knew pics were going to be required, so I'll snap some today.
I'm wishy/washy on the extended warranty thats why I didn't purchase it, however I did get a 3 month warranty just to make sure everything is up to par.
I keep reading about tune, if I did an airbox/headers do I take it somewhere to be tuned, or buy a tuner, such as what I have for my Diesel truck (performance tuner for $400) Are we talking $1k, $2k, $5k??? less or more????

The car is quicksilver as it's the only silver offered on the Z06 until machine silver on the '04. The Medium Spiral Grey was never offered on a Z06.
I don't hae wheel locks, but you can get some if you want to I guess.
HUD was not an option on '01 Z's but you can buy the kit and cut your dash. The car is pre-wired for it and it's fairly easy to do. I don't have it and have no desire for it.
Some '01's burn excessive oil when driven hard. They have a lower tension oil control ring wich can let too much by. Also, the PCV system is under the intake manifold and the valley seal can fail letting even more oil into the system.
Check your rear bumper and exhaust for oil specs and check the oil usage often. Mine was using a quart every 1000 miles and I beat on her... so GM stepped up and re-ringed the motor under warranty w/ the '02+ rings and now all is well. It burns maybe 1/2 a quart w/ 6000-8000 mile oil changes. Some say not all '01's burn oil , but they all have the flawed rings which were updated in '02 moving forward.
Welcom to the forum... this is the best forum on the internet... there is more information than you could every want, and if you have a question it normally gets answered quickly and accurately.
Now go and enjoy that car...
Oh... a pristine '01 like that would go for about $30k max... more like $28k for an '01.

I dont think you really need a tune unless you do a cold air intake, long tubes and an exhaust. With that and a tune, you may be able to gain up to 50 rwhp. Tuners in my area charge around $500.
Here's a very useful website with some producion numbers for 2001.
I paid $21.60 + tax at the dealer for GM wheel locks which I thought was reasonable. I recently swapped my '98 wagon wheels/GY EMT's for '03 z06 Speedlines and Firestone wide ovals. A much better look IMO.
...I'd like to know what I should have paid for this car, (I'll disclose my $$$ tomorrow)...
If you found the "perfect car" for you, then you shouldn't have paid one penny more than you did.....if any ole vette would do, then you probably overpaid....cause there is always one out there with a few more miles for a few dollars less...
