I also took the advice of my fellow forum members and purchased the CLB from Corvettes of Houston.
After I did the install, I fired up the car and I immediately had the the "Pull Key and Wait 10 seconds" message.
I contacted Corvettes of Houston. (A great bunch, I might add) and they had me return it after I received the replacement. The second one worked great. I haven't had any problems since.
For 1997 and 1998 cars, there is a possibility you will randomly see a message "Pull key and wait 10 seconds" with a Column Lock Simulator. Thus far, 2% of my customers have had it, and other manufacturers have had the same issue with 1997 and 1998 model cars. If you have a 1997 or 1998 model, and you understand this, you can order below. You will have the option of a refund if the simulator does not work in your vehicle.
It is no secret it is posted on their website. I may try one eventually. Or, I may just go some custom/ permanent way...
WOW...lots to think about...So, I have a `98 auto, no dealer recall has been done. Do I install the CLB and call it good? or? Will the CLB end all worries? thanks for info, want to do it right the first and only time.
The pull key message is different than the dreaded Service Column Lock that the CLB is supposed to prevent
The pull key message usually indicates that the computer couldn't read the resistance on the key, but I get it from time to time on my 97 (w/CLB) too, and others have posted similar, random occurances. When I get it I pull the key, then put it back in and off I go.
When it happens have you tried pulling the key out and waiting a few seconds bfore putting it back in? Do you have DTC codes being logged? If you have a second key have you tried it to see if it works better?
I pull the key, wait a few seconds , and off I go. My 98 has not fully accepted the CLB and never will. I only get message once in a while. Cleaning your key with rubbing alcohol helps
