made an appointment to install my new '04 shocks on my '01 Z06...well... I didn't realize that the wheels contained a locking lug nut.
I tore my Z apart and couldn't the special socket...next... we looked
at the owners manual...no mention of the locking lug nuts...on the lift next to mine was an '04 Z06...guess what...no socket...next ...I called
my brother who has an '04....again...no socket....where in the he$$
is the socket located...my '96 LT4 had the socket located in the rear
storage compartment...any and all info will be appreciated...Thanks in
advance....Ed
You can remove the locking lugs without a key. Put a sacrificial socket on a 6" extension and drive it on with a hammer. The socket should be a size that wedges on to the nut. Sears Craftsman is preferred. If you split the socket you can return it.
If nothing else (the 'key' cannot be found, the Craftsman fix it [and that DOES work BTW) see if you can contact the seller. He/she may have it, or can tell you the key number.
As a note - in the documentation (Corvette book that comes with the Vette) is there a card there that tells the key number?
thanks for all the suggestions and ideas...still no luck...
went to the local chevy dealer....the only help they offered was
to beat the lug off and not responsible for any wheel damage
off to a tire store to see if they have a key socket

I do not believe the '04s came with locking lugs. If you can't find the key, try to find a piece of paper that may have came with the car that has information on getting a replacement key. I know mine came with that information. As a last resort, the use of a sacrifical socket will work.
I lost the key to mine. I had to use the tried and true method usually recommended on the forum for this situation. Get an impact socket slightly too small to fit over the top of the lock, and then beat it on there with a big hammer. This should give you enough bite on them to get them off, providing they weren't put on with an impact to some ungodly torque spec. You will probably need to put the socket in a vice or something so you can use something to drive the lock out of the socket once it's off, but i was able to get all 4 of mine off in about 15 minutes or so.
my 97 has factory locks w/key...anyway.....just beat on the socket.....gang bangers have been stealing wheels w/this method for many years!!! it works!!!
