But please, everyone listen, please don't use any kind that adds a non slip
coating to the outside of the filter. This insulates the filter and Keeps Heat In.
Jay-
Why not stick with the Delco AC filter that came with your Z06? AC Delco makes a very good filter-if you want to do one better- try the AC/Delco Gold series. This was a topic a while back on the forum and AC/Delco did very good in the single pass test. I've consistently used AC/Delco's on my last 5 Corvettes.
I use Mobil 1 oil and filters on all my cars. I don't see a problem with a filter keeping the heat in. The filter is not a cooler. The temperature difference must be minute. BTW. However, the Mobil 1 filter does not have the rubber coating.
If it did though, it would still be the one I use.
I just called the dealer and they said like $14 for the ACDelco Ultraguard Gold UPF44. I then called Pepboys they claim that they are the only parts store that carries them. the are $6.90. I tried a few other stores autozone and advanced and they said that they don't carry the ACDelco Ultraguard Gold filters.
Use AC Delco filters. Keep your GM all GM. Whatever you do DO NOT use Fram filters. :nono: I have seen cases where they caused engine failure.
I agree. Avoid FRAM Filters. :nono:
Back in 92, I was desperate to change the oil on my newly broken-in engine on my NSX. Unfortunately, my dealer was out of stock on the OEM NSX oil filter. Only oil filter that was available to me at that time was a Fram oil filter. I proceeded with the oil change, then took my car on a test drive. I drove around the blocks until my engine got warm. Then I decide to take a couple of high speed pass. On my first try, the Fram blew its gasket and spewed oil all over the rear of the car (remember, the NSX is mid-engined). Fortunately, I was able to see my oil pressure gauge dropped and shut the engine off immediately before any damage occured. But, can you imagine the look on my face when I saw the rear of my new car smoking with exhaust-burned oil?Later, I had the dealer check for engine damage. Luckily, none was found. Upon further inspection of the Fram oil filter, we discovered that the Fram filter did not seal properly. The filter was slightly warped on the gasket rim. Obviously a manufacturer defect. :mad From then on, I only use factory oil fiters for my cars. Stay away from Fram.
