When having my alignment checked today at a trusted tire shop I was told my right rear strut was leaking badly.
So what are my options, GM replacements or ??
Thanks
If your mechanic told you your "strut" is leaking, then you need to find another
mechanic. A strut is an assembly eliminates the upper control and carries the
spring in it's housing. What you have in the rear are shocks. If they are leaking, you can go w/ GM stock, C5 Z06, or even C6 Z06, I believe. Aftermarket companies like Bilstein and Monroe also make good shocks. Good luck!

1. The vette doesn't have struts. 2. That's a common way to gouge money from an unknowing customer. Wipe a little oil on the shock, and tell the sucker he needs new ones.

If you truly need new shocks, the '04 Z06 shocks are a good buy. So are the '06 Z06 shocks. Vendors like Fred Beans has good prices on these two items. Bilstein makes a good set too.
The rear shocks may have a leak. Pull the wheel and look at your upper and lower contol arms. Rub your fingers on them. If you get a black oily residue and they are coated with it, you're probably leaking shock fluid. Wipe the shock clean, put the wheel on and go for a ride. Come back, pop the wheel and look for oil. If you have to change it, Bilstiens are good. C5 Z06 shocks are good. I just replaced mine on a '99 FRC w/Z51 with C6 Z06 and C5 Z06 metal sway bar end links. The ride and handling cahnge is awesome. I did all 4 wheels. Gene@Fred Beans has the best prices shipped/ I got my rear shocks in and out in 1 hour each wheel by unhooking the tie rod. The tech section has a nice how to. You can do this in your garage. Just jack up the rear, put two jack stands under the rear cross member and have fun. Read the several posts on here on changing shocks. All kinds of tips.
