Default Check engine/catalytic converter

Friend just picked up an 04 vert with 7600 miles, didn't pass inspection, was told because commputer needed more info due to not being driven lately, on cruise last night check engine light comes on. Goes to dealer (not were purchased) and was tod Catalytic converter was faulty. Anyone ever see this before?

First of all, I really doubt a cat failed on such a low mileage. Second, it isn't necessary to "go to the dealer" to find the cause of the CEL.

Here is link to instructions for how to extract the codes from the dash DIC:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...D=26&TopicID=1
Any codes in the 10-PCM section can cause the CEL to come on.

Here is a link explaining what most of the codes you might find mean:
http://www.stengel.net/diccodes.htm

And here is a link with year-by-year breakdown of how to troubleshoot the codes:
http://www.gearchatter.com/index10.php

In the unlikely event that it is the catalytic converter, it is still under warranty.

HTH!

They are covering it under warranty and the codes say its bad just doesn't make sense, my 99 had 39k when I bought my 04 that has 16k. I have only once in all my cars replaced the catalytic converter, that was in the 70's, and my daily driver has 80k.
