gmpp question
And I currently have 27,000 miles on the car, (Its under warranty for 6 more months.) (Car originally titled 01/22/2004)
Does that mean that:
A) GMPP expires at: 72,000 miles? (27+45)
B) Or at 81,000 miles? (36+45)
A) And expires August 2009
B) Or, January 2010 (Based on factory warranty.)

Fichtner generally has the best deals on the GMPP and parts too. Dennis is the GMPP guy at Fichtner and he will give you the straight skinny on your GMPP questions.

It's good to see that "the shocker" is alive and well.

I'd just rather you got accurate information instead of anyone's best guess. Frankly I don't know the answer for sure, though maybe someone here does. I could make something for 'ya though!

The GMPP starts with the mileage on the car on the date you buy the extended warranty (mileage AND time both start on the purchase date), so you should wait until just before the factory warranty expires to purchase it.
Then it will be 36 months from when your factory warranty expires, and 45,000 miles added on to the mileage at the time. Buy the GMPP effective on 1/22/2007. If you have 30,000 miles at the time, then the warranty would be until 1/22/2010 and 75,000 miles.
Based on the case you originally presented, it would be 72,000 miles and August 2009. Actually, it is only under warranty for 5 more months instead of 6.

My Gmpp card says it expires 01/09. 50000 miles cost in 2004 $600.00
The salesman will try to tell you the plans are cheaper if you buy them when the car is new, but they really cost about the same if you wait until the end of the factory warranty.
In the case above, the plan only cost $600, but you only got 2 extra years and 14,000 miles additional warranty.
I plan to buy a 60 month/40,000 mile warranty on the day my factory warranty expires for around $1,000, so I will get a full 5 years and 40,000 miles of added coverage.
Also rates go up oct 1 so you can save money buying in Sept.
I have an '04 and will call Dennis in a couple weeks to extend mine.
Good luck.
Good luck.
When you are buying a GMPP for the first time, you can wait until the last day of the factory warranty if you want to.

Remember 10-1 is the magic day so the last day to purchase at the lower price will be 9-30.

That is what I meant about 5 posts back, when I said....
"I plan to buy a 60 month/40,000 mile warranty on the day my factory warranty expires for around $1,000, so I will get a full 5 years and 40,000 miles of added coverage."
I have also looked back at the GMPP rates for the past 3 or 4 years and found that, historically, any price increases still did not justify buying a policy early. I found that if you pick the right plan, the cost is about the same, and you have been able to keep your money for that much longer (and hopefully earn some interest).

I wonder how much the price increase is.
I wonder how much the price increase is.
You never know what will happpen, but here is one example.
In 2003, a 60/40 plan for a car with 0-24,000 miles list for $1,480.
The same plan in 2005 listed for $1,620, a difference of $140.
This is less than 5% increase per year.
Even if you did not earn 5% on your money, it is not a big difference.
For me, it will work out better because the plan I would have bought in 2003 would have had to be 84/56 to get the same coverage (since there would still have been 2 years left on the factory warranty) and cost $1,940, but will now cost me only $1,070 for the same coverage due to internet competition.
If you look at the GMPP tables, once you pass about 60/40 in miles or months, the cost really goes up. The earlier you buy a plan, the more miles and months you have to buy to get the same coverage.
