I am in the market for a C5, and found two at Cooper Corvettes, which I am sure is well known. I dont know if these prices are high or low, or when the best time to buy is, but I would like to be in the mid to low 20's for price, if not cheaper. I have randomly checked the for sale section but most of the autos I found were already modified. I want a BONE stock one, so I can mod it how I want.
So, here are the two I found:
First, we have the 1997 Corvette Auto $ 22,500 42,864 miles
Then, a 2000 Corvette Auto $ 26,500 60,615 miles
I look forward to all insight, opinions, and advice on purchasing a corvette of my own.

First of all - if you want BONE STOCK - the black '97 has later model thinspokes, and the red 2000 has chrome Z06 wheels - neither one is stock. Secondly - I think those prices for cars with that kind of mileage is a little high. I would think the '97 would be under $20K or right at it, and the '00 would be more in the $22K range.
Take a look at AutoTrader and Cars.com, as well as Corvette Hound http://www.vettehound.com/geo/classifieds.php?a=5&b=341. Personally, I much prefer to deal with private parties on sales of used cars. You are talking to the person that owned the car and you can get a much better feel for how the car was maintained and treated by talking to an owner, not a salesman who only cares about making the sale.
Good luck in the hunt - and don't limit yourself to cars that are in your geographic area - there are a lot of very nice cars at reasonable prices out there.

Thanks for the advice/input. I should have been more clear in my post. When I refer to stock, I meant the drivetrain. I am a drag racing kind of owner, and that is what my intention is with the corvette. I agree about dealing with an owner, it is more personal and easier to know more about the car. I just may consider that route. I wouldnt even mind buying from a forum member!
I just got done looking at Kerbeck's site, and Auto Trader, and see that most of the 2k+ cars can be found in the mid to low 20's.
I am also starting to understand this is not going to be an easy journey, considering there were over 2200 cars on Auto Trader for under 25k !!!
Cooper's is higher priced than most after doing some long looking and pricing. I haven't had any dealings with them, so they may be the best guys on the planet to deal with. I can say, with great certainty, that they do not reply to emails.
Subtract 3k from each car and you are back in reality. For 26,500 for a 2000 I would expect about 1/2 that many miles . Even then you should get the car for around 25k. Especially in the fall.
