I just got an 03 Anniv Edition convertible and when waxing, I notice the fuel door pushes in about 1/4 inch when touched. It springs back to flush when not touched, but sort of clanks in and out while wiping it. There are two small holes in the opening on the car side that look like they should have rubber bumpers in them. Does anyone know if that is the case? I had a 98 and never noticed this. If anyone is near their car, could you take a look inside the fuel door cavity and see what the door touches against when pushed in? Mine is just hitting against the rim of the opening itself. Thanks for your help.

I have an 03 and yes their are two little rubber bumpers that go in the area you are talking about inside the fuel door.
I have an '04 and the bumpers are missing on mine also. This is a common syndrome. A few forum members have said that they were able to acquire the bumpers from the dealer.

Their are also some little rubber stops on your door handle also make sure those are on before you go to the dealer you might need those also their should be 2...........
My 04 was missing them also. The dealer replaced them but they were gone again within a month or so. They apparently don't have much holding power and will come off when fueling or washing the car. Since the fuel door doesn't rattle or seem to make a difference I'm just leaving them off. They are kind of puny anyway - about 1/3 the size of the bumpers on my wife's 01 Deville.
My 04 has them but it probably isn't that big of a deal if they are missing. The door is designed to spring out when released and the latch is what keeps it from doing that, so it's not like the inside of the door is up against the two small rubber stoppers when closed.
That may be true, but if you pull yours off, you won't like the way the door flops in and out when you touch it. I'll get them somewhere. Thanks everyone.
I don't exactly go around touching or pushing on the gas tank door all that often, only when I'm closing it or washing it. If you think they're worth getting, by all means get them. I'm just glad I don't have to worry about it, not that I would much if I didn't have them.

Maybe I wash and wax mine more than some, it feels cheap to hear it rattle against the screws, not to mention dinging the paint on the inside of the door. I called the dealer and ordered them today. They'll be here tomorrow.
