Default Fun Factor???

Hey everybody.... My first post here... I've been lurking for a couple years here though... I think we (wifey) are finally going to be corvette owners in the spring; so here's my dilemna... She likes convertibles I reasoned with her and said we would get a coupe however, i have gotten zo6 fever... So how do i convince her that this car is going to make her forget about her hair blowing in the wind? I'm sure many of you have had both... Please if you could give your reasonings why this is the way to go... I've never driven either, so i guess I need some encouraging as well. Thanks for the help

It's all about preferences. I currently have a 02 Z06 EB. Before that I had a 93 6sp vert. My case was different, my wife did not enjoy the convert. So it was an easy change for us. But, test drive both and between the two decide. The performance of a Z06 is something she should like. Good luck...

Have you guys should drive all three.
I would take her on the freeway in a vert with the top down and without a ball cap or her hair up! That might do it.
My wife and I own both a Z (my daily driver) and an S2000 (her daily driver). Seldom do we drop the top on the S2000. It's a fun idea but it's never "perfect" where we live. Too hot, too cold, ect. Might be different for you though.

I had a coupe previously and after the first few months I seldom pulled the top off. Too much of a pain.

I don't miss the topless action in the Z but that's just me. Mine is quiet on the freeway at 85 MPH and I love the look of the hardtop.

You guys could compromise and get a couple with the Z51 option with the understanding that you will slowly mod it here and there to make up for the difference.

Wider wheels and new sway bars would bring you very close to the Z's performance.

A supercharger(I'm biased) or turbos would give you more go than you would probably ever use.

Bottom line is you are gong to love whatever Vette you get!

Hope that helps!!

How about you buy the vert and mod it? It wouldn't take much to surpass the performance level of a Z06.

I was kind of in the same boat when I was looking for a C5. The Z06 is a great performer right out of the box, but I planned on modding the car so that wasn't such a big factor. In the end I ended up with a Z51 6-speed Coupe. I get to take the top off if I want some fresh air and as for handling after upgrading the brakes, wheels and tires I'm in Z06 territory. Now to add some go fast goodies!

Won't take much? I couldn't disagree more. You're telling the guy that it won't take much to turn mid 13 second car and turn it into a low 12 / high 11 second car? Maybe your definition of easy is different than mine but you're making it sound like a few bolt-ons and a vert will surpass a Z06 in performance. I'd love to see your idea of what "won't take much" is.

Hey guys, thanks for the input so far... As for some of the things being said... I definately am not going with the vert... she is fine with that... it's just the removable top that she likes... and i am more into having something not really seen around here (exclusiveness)... I live in ND and i can only recall seeing 1 zo6 around town, but there are plenty of other vettes around... Of course there may be more...And I am not all that comfortable doing mods myself so if i were to go that route i'd end up having to pay somebody to help or do it for me... i guess if that's the case i would try to find a coupe with the mods done already, which is fine... either car is going to be more car than she'll ever use anyways... And how often do you guys remove your top??? Remember i only have about 7 months out of the year around here... Thanks again

Hi skye1214 -

My wife did not see in the Z06 everything that I saw (and felt), and since she does not drive the cars hard at all, the Z was more nusiance to her than anything (she loved it, but does not like driving the stick etc).

Your wife might be better suited in an automatic coupe with a removable targa - it has almost all of the feel of a vert without the pain of keeping a cloth roof clean etc.

That's what we did - I got my Z, and she got her coupe....

best regards -
