Should I be concerned about the low mileage 03-04 vette the dealer is going to get for me?
A forum member suggested that if it was low mileage and at auction, there was something to hide/

i wouldn't worry about it. get the VIN number and do a carfax history report. I just bought my '01 3 months ago from a dealership who had acquired the car from an auction. i spoke with some members of my local corvette club and they said that if everything is clean on the carfax report, it should be good to go. several of the members told me that they had purchased their vettes from auctions and everything was fineas well. hope this helps!

No way! Don't worry it probably was a garage queen someone traded in and no longer wanted! If the dealer is picking it up then they'll fully inspect it before you buy it and it'll probably have a small warranty to go with it!

Plus your insurence being that it is newer and low mileage will more than likely offer you a warranty option for the Vette! for a decent price! Even the dealer warranty might still be in operation and you can pick up an extended one through them!

Let us know how it goes and what you come up with! Sounds like a nice ride!

Thanks,Matt

I guess this guy couldnt see why a low mileage 03 or 04 would be sent to auction, but IMO, the end of the summer, end of the month, and lots of vettes for sale = dealers trying to move cars one way or another.

Go ahead and run the CarFax - I just wouldn't place too much value in what it reports. It's only as good as the information that is reported and gathered.

What I would do is get the VIN and have one of the members here that has access to GM VIS run a service and origination history on the car.

Sponge Vette, ja03c5 and RichieRichZ06 are among the members that I know that have access to the system.

I wouldn't necessarily be suspicious of the car until I saw it and got the report on it. My buddy has bought several low mileage C5's over the years and every one of them has been exactly what they were advertised to be...garage queens that just never got driven.

I'd want to see it first before I bought it!

That was my line of thinking, but a forum member advised me to go with an 03 w/ 20,000 miles over say an 04 w/ 32,000 miles, Esp if I got the AE
But since this will be a DD, and I plan to keep well through grad school..Im thinking, 04 with warranty.

Run the service report on the car and if it comes back clean, I think you'll be OK.

I've gotten a few vehicles from auctions before and haven't had any problems - none of them were vettes though.

What state was the vehicle registered in? There may be some reason for concerned, as a large number of reconditioned flood vehicles are currently being shipped out of state from Louisiana and Mississippi.

I will keep yall posted when I hear from the dealer, I will ask where the car was originally titled, how many owners, and I will get someone on the forum to run the VIN. Then move to a carfax if everything else is clear.

I wouldn't think twice about it coming from auction. That's where my 04 came from, and I defy you to find a cleaner one, both literally, and Carfax and service report wise. It is loaded too. Had 13,000 miles on it.

The same small local Vette only dealer I got mine from, Jackson Auto Sales, just listed a black on black 06 ZO6 with 500 miles on it, and I'll bet that came from auction too.

I also sell used Corvettes and buy many of them at Manheim Auto Auction. Most people hear auction and think trouble!!! Maybe 20 years ago but not today. The auction is on a system called Autction Access. If a car was sold at any other auction in the country and there was a problem such as frame damage, odometer problem, flood, etc. it comes up in the auctions computer and the information is displayed for the buyers to see. Also every car registered for sale is run through Carfax, Autocheck, and the national autothief data base.

If you buy a car at a Manheim auction and get it home and find hidden damage, frame, etc you bring the car back for a refund.

We get many low low mileage Corvettes at Manheim. These cars get traded in on other Vettes or other highline cars. If a Benz dealer trades one they will take it to the auction and sell it. New car dealers always need to turn the money so they need to sell their trades and most will not keep a used car longer than 45-60 days. I also find that many Chevy dealers don't want to keep used Corvettes around they want to sell new ones.

Also cars in the cold weather states are garaged 4-6 months out of the year so the miles are low vs the warm weather states were you can drive year round.

Good dealers know what to look for on a car and most will not buy a highline car if it had paint work.

As little as some folks drive their vettes, I wouldn't be surprised at a low mileage car coming available (could be a lease turn in like mine will be next July because there's lots of lease cars at general dealer used car auctions).

I agree with the sentiments here mentioned by other members about running a carfax to be on the safe side.

I just got a 2000 that was a lease sold at auction with 19.5k miles for a really good price...well under book, from a dealer.

I would also ask for a gm report. So far I have put on 1500 miles with no problems and am very happy.
