Default RM Racing Twin Flow?

I just got my 2001 Z on Saturday. It has an RM Racing Twin Flow cold-air on it. I have not seen many of these. I think RM is out of business or maybe was bought out because I don't see their web site anymore.

Who else has this setup? What is the general opinion on them?

Thanks,
Ryan

I have one on my 2001 and have been pleased with it. Be sure to clean the cone filters per K&N instructions. You can by the K&N cleaning kit at most auto supply stores (I found one at Napa).

They cause too much turbulence when used on a Z06 without MAF screens. Your 2001 should have screens so you should be ok. Do not remove your screens.

rbartic,

Thanks for the info on the MAF screen. I wasn't aware of that. Good to know.

Thanks for the info. Looks like mine came as part of an AFE kit from West Coast Corvettes.

I think I might go with a BlackWing instead. I have the feeling this twin flow is an older design and not as good as some of the newer stuff. Mabye I'm worried about it too much.

I had one. My tuner showed me a hp graph of a car with one of these vs. a more "conventional" aftermarket intake. Accounted for about a 10 hp difference due to turbulence of the twin flow design. Having said that, I think they look nice and you might not even notice the difference...

10HP difference is a lot.

PacWest,

I suggest you get another brand intake of choice. I love my Halltech Stinger, but the Blackwing is nice too. Don't forget to do the "Cut Radiator Shroud" mod afterwards for some nice, cool ambient air. Sucking hot engine air kills power.

I had an RM twin on my '97 and switched to a Blackwing. The Blackwing is a much better design and flows a lot more air. Probably a 10 hp gain over the RM.

Anybody want to buy a Twin Flow:-)

I agree; 10 HP is a lot and worth the change for me. Especially since there is turbulence. That has to make it harder to tune and I'd like to de-screen my MAF or go w/ a 2002 and up MAF - assuming that makes some difference as I have not completely researched it yet.

OutlawDon - I will most likely get the Hallitech Stinger. I like that design after checking it out some more.

This situation reminds me of multiple carbs vs. one big 4 barrel. It is a lot easier to tune that one big carb and it almost always makes more power. Okay, maybe this comparison is a streatch but that one big filter has got to flow more air. I'm glad to hear the proof from you guys.

I de-screened my MAF...no problem's here with the Halltech Stinger and cut radiator shroud.

The Stinger is just a nice, simple design....looks pretty cool under the hood with the smooth air bridge and big sexy filter!

I ran a RM Twinflow without the maf screen for 3 years without any problems. I ran 111 mph trap speeds on a A4 with 3.73 gears and Z06 exhahust. IMHO the twinflow is a great mod.

It is a great mod compared to the stock intake. But the Blackwing or Vararam is a better mod.

Thats your opinion. I agree that the Vararam is better because it is a true cold air intake. However the Twinflow with the fog light area open is a close second because it has the filters closer to the cold air opening. I don't think that there is much of a difference between the non cold air intakes.

Oh brother, I'm sorry I even mentioned it. Filters close to the air opening?
