Have you made sure the mirror set screw is tight to the mount? The early years are known to have mirror stability issues, but those usually are that the mirror slips when you hit a bump.

My rear-view mirror also slips after engaging a moderate bump.

The older mirrors have 2 ball joints - mine was dropping when I hit a bump, so I coated as much of both ***** as I could get to with silicone sealant. Of course I wiped off all the excess and let it dry overnight before I remounted it. It has made it more stable.

how about the outside mirrors ? mine are stable until you get around 70mph, then they are almost unusable with all the vibration. Any suggestions on how to make those more stable?

I know that the outside mirrors have issues - there is a guy that rebuilds them. As I understand the main problem, the joint that allows the mirror to be pivoted is not very robust. This thread ( http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ghlight=mirror ) has a good discussion on options.
