I've never done it or actually "seen" it personally...but I have read of some members talk about it for about $300. Apperently you have to pull out the dash and all...

I will see if I can find a previous post about it.

The HUD can be retrofitted to your car, but you will need the HUD cluster, dashpad bezel the elusive 11 pin wire harness AND a later model instrument cluster, it'll probably cost you $400-$600 if you shop well. Labor is probably about a $100-130 unless you do it your self, which is what I did. I found it fairly easy, but I'm a seasoned technician. You don not need a HUD approved windshield to make this work. All in all, it was worth the effort, the HUD is VERY cool and makes me feel like Maverick in Top Gun !

Yes, you can put a passenger side air bag cutoff switch in your car. Give Bob at Fichtner Chevy a call. Not sure about the cost.

Special windshield? so will the end result withOUT the special windshield be a Fainter image? IF not.. then why is there a special HUD windshield at all?

I would also like to do this to my '98

I believe that is the kit Forum member PaceThis was offering in a GP a couple of months ago. If so, kit is *very* complete and relatively easy to install. Just time consuming as the entire dash pad and related parts must be removed but included instructions are very good.

A very complete kit.

I did the HUD retrofit in my 2000 and it went fine. My cluster was HUD ready so all I needed was the 11 pin harness, dash bezel and the projector. Cutting the dash is a piece of cake. There have been some excellent detailed install instructions posted. Get those, give yourself plenty of time and you'll be set.

I installed the HUD in my 2000 FRC and it was very easy. Pacethis offers a complete kit. I got mine from Gene @ the KARSHOP before Pacethis was selling his kits. The 11 pin cable is not readily available.

I have the standard w/shield and it works great.

As a person with the HUD in my car, I can say that if I didn't have it I wouldn't go through the work to put it in. Just my $.02

if you want to permanantly turn off the airbag get a 2.1kohm resistor from radio shack and solder it to the plug.
