Question for you all. I replaced the battery in the FOB, did the set up in the learn FOB DIC. Registered by two horn beeps. The FOB works for about 30 seconds then nothing. If I hold down the two top buttons for about 15 seconds it reconnects with the car and everything works but for only about 30 seconds. Anyone have this problem? Is it the car? Or is it the FOB?
Please gove this a thought and let me know what you think.

I have the exact same problem with my '98 (which uses the same RFA - remote function actuator) I know it's the RFA, because I dug out my old worn out one and it works perfectly.
Someone posted that they found a resistor or something on the circuit board in the transmitter that was loose, and he was going to try to re-solder that. I never heard what the outcome with that was.....
im having the same problem also. hopefully someone will post which resistor that is. if i get some time i might take mine apart and play with it some. the last time i checked the new part was around $190 from gmpp.

Just open it up (I would if I had it with me at work) and see if you see anything on the printed circuit board that looks loose. I believe that's what the poster of the thread to which I referred was saying.
As far as buying a new one - there is no way I would spend $190. I bought one from the local dealer for $100, and since then I have bought them on Ebay for about $65.

That was me. The resistor was loose, but resoldering did not work. I am very frustrated with it now.

Well - so much for that.....
As I stated - I found my old one that is all slick and shiny from being in my pocket, and the letting is worn off the buttons.....but it works perfectly. The nice new one that still has texture on the plastic and the letters on the buttons doesn't work!
I've spent way too much time fooling with it, for nothing good. I'll just use my old one.

Can't you take it apart and put the old board in the nice looking cover and buttons?

Edit - some beat me to my response below while I was typing.
Can you simply switch cases? Take the circuit board assembly out and transfer it to the newer case.
Try removing the guts out of the non-working FOB first to test the degree of difficulty.
paste the above link and it should take you to the page where I bought mine to contact the seller.

The problem is Sarge - your fobs are the newer style without the sliding switch for Passive and Active. The '97 - '99 had this fob and it was much more expensive - and the new fobs are not backwards compatible.
This is what the older fobs looked like.......
The C6 ain't got nothing on the first three years of the C5's. The doors can automatically lock/unlock with the fob in your pocket. Too bad the whole thing drove me nuts and I disabled it!

Sounds like a new fob may be in order. Do you have a second fob that should have came with the car? If so, see if that one will keep the memory when you learn it to the car. I had a problem with the fob I always used on my '00 - would keep the memory for a day or so, then lose it. Checked my spare fob and it worked perfectly. Replaced the non working fob and now all is OK.
