Installed switches in the fuel pump circuits of my past Camaro and Firebird. Is this the way to go on a 04 C5, or is there a better way? Also, other theft deterrent ideas are welcome! Thanks everyone!
That is a good theft deterent, I did that on my 5.0 mustang, and haven't tried that to my C5. I'd check the service manuals and find the circuit, and then just tap the kill switch into it.
p.s.-if the thieves really want your vette, he's probably a seasoned pro and it will probably be GONE in 60 SECONDS!
This was courtesy of Lonestar FRC. I have saved it and bought the hardware just not done it yet...
"Remove your knee bolster from under the dash and locate the switch that the clutch pedal pushes up against when you mash it down. These's only one so it's pretty easy to spot. I believe I removed the plug from the switch in order to get to the wires. There are two wires going to the switch (don't recall the colors, but it really doesn't matter) and you can cut either one to splice your two wires into. Just cut either one of the wires you choose, but not both. Either solder or securely crimp a butt splice onto each end of the wire that you cut, then solder or crimp some extra wire (of whatever length you choose) to each of the butt connectors. I used 16 ga to be on the safe side. Just make sure your wiring that you are attaching is plenty long enough to go to wherever you going to be putting your switch.
I used a black (less easily seen) rocker type switch rated at about 10 or 15amps (it will tell you on the package) and connect the two long wires you previously spliced into, onto some connectors for the switch. Depending on the switch you choose will determine what type connectors you need. I used the flat "spade" type push on connectors. You don't need to do any drilling or cutting to mount the switch as you can secure it to wherever you want to put it with some black tie-wraps, etc.
When installed, you will have to remember to flip the switch before exiting the car. If you forget to flip the switch back when you get in, don't worry. The only thing that will happen is that when you turn the key you will get nothing, zippo, nada. Kinda like what a thief would experince. Just flip the switch and she'll start right up. After awhile, it will become second nature to flip the switch when exiting your car.
Cheap and effective. Just a little time on your part"
Thanks for the tip regarding the clutch switch circuit, but mine is an auto. Is there a fuel pump relay switch in this area which would be as effective?
